AVI 2 SVCD From poor source [Archive]

Sorry if wrong place as did not know where to put this.
I have downloaded some AVI files from Kazza that play fine in media player or power DVD.
I wanted to convert them to svcd although the quality would be poor.
I tried CCE & Tmpgenc and both crashed as it does not convert the audio properly I think so cant join it on later.
Am I making any sense.
Sorry not very good at this maybe I should just stick to the easy stuff like DVD2SVCD :)
