subtitles CVD - SVCD

Hi fooks, first of all i want to compliment dvd2svcd for beeing a very cool program. But working with it i have some questions about the subtitles. My DVD-player (Hitecker 600) only seems to work when i select CVD-subtitles and other dvd-players only work with SVCD-subtitles are used. How is this possible ??? because i realize that my dvd-player will not live forever and may have a problem in the future reading the subtitles when i buy another player...

I think this question is beyond the scope of dvd2svcd. The chipset the manufactures select when making a dvd player isn't something I am in control of.

I'm pleased that somebody talks about that (specially dvd2svcd).

I'm spanish and I love to see movies in original version (most english) in order to improve my english. For that reason I would like to buy a DVD player that allows to play SVCD with subtitles.

Everybody talks here about CVD & SVCD, buyt nobody has explained how they do like. All I know is that SVCD-style is OGT (they say like DVD subs) and CVD follows china-vcd specs.. ok, but, how they look like???? Are they different?

I mean..are CVD like the subtitles that we see on TV (black background stripe with colour bold text over it) and SVCD-style like the ones you can see in a DVD (text overlaid in image) ???

Can anybody explain it to me, please??
Also, looking at that thread where people talks about models and specs started by Mr Bass a while ago, I haven't seen ANY DVD capable of displaying both CVD and SVCD subs (they mentioned Sampo, but then it was't true..).

Is there any player capable of displaying both CVD 7 SVCD subs??

CVD appears exactly the same way as subtitles on DVD.

SVCD and CVD subs look exactly the same, in fact they can come from the same files, the only difference comes from how they are encoded into the MPEG file, but the results are exactly the same.

Only that some players only recognize CVD, others SVCD, other none and perhaps some recognize both.

I usually put the subtitles in both formats in my homemade SVCDs (I think you cannot do that with DVD2SVCD, but it is easy to do with the own DVD2SVCD files using WinSubMux, although NOT for beginners).

Since my player only supports SVCD style subs, I do not know if muxing both works for CVD capable players, but in my Cyberhome they look great.

This would be a great addition to DVD2SVCD.

@Pko: If you put subs in both formats, it will increase the final size of the file a lot much?

What model of Cyberhome do you own?

Do you suffer from palette problems on the subtitles, I mean, do you have to select them with a particular background color i.e. black or you can select it transparent? Thanks in advance

It depends on the number and size of the subs... Usually around 2 or 3 MB for each 50 - 60 min of movie (and for each subtitle stream, of course)

My cyberhome is a M212.

Usually, default colors works, but with subs ripped from some DVDs I had to change colors with WinSubMux (only 2 or 3 times)
