Please help with CCE freeze at 20%

[Stuff]

The movie I'm trying to encode is The One.
Using DVD2SVCD v1.0.9 b1, with WinSubMux 2.0.1 and the latest avisynth.dll 1.0 7d the only things changed. Put that dll in both WINDOWS\system32 and DVD2SVCD\Avisynth.
I've tried it twice and CCE 2.5 stops both times at 20%.
BitrateViewer told me the movie was field, so I unchecked zigzag scanning order and progressive frames as I should.
Image quality priority at 20, anti noise at 2, multipass VBR at 4.
Set bitrate to be on 1 CD. Bicubic resize with default values and no temporal smoother. Did English CVD subtitles too at -1. For CDImage, used a custom title picture and entrysvd with VCDXBuild, DVD chapters with PBC selections.
Pretty much everything else is the same. I have no idea what to do! :confused: Someone please help! Its the only SVCD that has froze out of about, 7..
I will post anything else and tell you what works, if anything..

I was reading more posts about CCE stops and it might be a problem with bitrate settings. The movie is 4:3 and doesn't have any black bars so I'm not sure. If no one offers anything else, I will try another tweak.dll or mpeg2dec2.dll.

The tweak.dll posted by DVD2SVCD is as follows:

1. Download Tweak.dll from Donald Grafts homepage.
2. In the frameserver tab select "Edit avs as part of the encode.
3. When the AVS edit box pops up, just press save (not ok, not yet).
4. Open the AVS in VirtualDUB.
5. Move forward until the end credits starts. Write down the frame number. Move to the end of the movie and write down that frame number too.
6. Go back to the Edit AVS window.
7. Change it to this:

8. The bold text is what is important. Hit ok and you should be able to get your rip. It might seem a little difficult, but it is infact quite simple

I dont know if it will cause any problems with CCE but you should only rip the movies with the internal routines or vstrip. Sometimes when you use something else the audio will be off. Also you might want to put your CPU back to 1.2, I have heard that overclocking can cause freezing in CCE.

Why would ripping with a different ripper cause audio problems? The audio and video are sync'd in the vob files and the only thing a ripper does is decrypt/copy those vob files onto the harddrive. I've never had any problems with movies ripped by SmartRipper.

The computer isn't overclocked. I just can't update my profile since I'm using a hotmail account. I get email notifications fine. I don't really want to get another email address just so I can update my profile. Why can't I use a hotmail account anyway? I signed up with it.. :(

I did some more reading and I will try unchecking Anti Noise filter to see if that works. It helped DVD2SVCD rip Shrek, so hopefully it will work for me with The One. Has anyone else ripped this movie? If so, what settings did you use?

Tell you tomorrow if the noise filter thing worked.

Well it can. As to why, maybe it's because DVD2SVCD extracts the AC3 using internal routines, and this extraction process is designed with internally-ripped vobs in mind.

I do 100% ..ok 99.9% with internal routines. Yes I ripped 'The One' and had zero problems.

After I ripped the movie I loaned the DVD to a friend of mine and he broke the disc! Gave me $20 though. If I use internal rountines to rip the movie using the ifo/vobs I already ripped, does that make a difference? I mean, it will be basically the same thing.

I also tried encoding the movie without an anti noise filter and still the same thing. Stops at 20%. Next I will try raising the minimum bitrate and using mpeg2dec2.dll instead of mpeg2dec.dll and see if that works.

@mrbass - do you still have the settings file you used when you ripped The One? If so, what were they?

Off topic but any of you guys have a Japanese girlfriend? Mine wants to know for some reason. :rolleyes:

A quick question about Bitrate Viewer and CCE Advanced Settings; ZigZag Scanning Order, Progressive Frames and Field Order.

I opened up each of the 3 vobs from The One in Bitrate Viewer 1.5.043 and let it scan them for about 2000 frames and this is what I got.

Only change from the default settings if you are having a problem. In your case topfield first should have nothing to do with CCE freezing. So once the video is encoded if there is a problem with the completed video start looking deeper until then don't get yourself into trouble by thinking to much.
Try to get one thing fixed at a time.
Bitrate Viewer is sorta a bad word around here. Not many people trust it here. It could be us, but we don't want to think so.

I agree with the others use the included rippers unless you have no other choice. There are documented issues with A/V sync and other problems. Decrypter tends to rip things you don't want along with the movie that really screws you up.

Have you run the Prime95 torture test like chainsaw135 said? Along with that use memtest86. Both can be found linked in the Q + A.

Try setting your memory timings in you bios to a less aggressive setting. CCE is very memory sensitive and any slight problem will cause CCE to error.
If you are overclocking slow the machine down.

Everything said here has been shown to fix the issue with machines that otherwise have seemed perfectly stable.

Lastly the bad news is that some people just can't get CCE to work. That is the main reason TMPG support was added.

I have also backed up "The One" and had no problems. Have you successfully backed up a DVD on this computer? I have had instances where CCE failed which turned out to be a bad rip, even using internal routines. Try watching the ripped vobs using a software player and see if there are any problems with them. If they won't play properly, then I don't think you'll have much luck without re-ripping from the DVD. If they play properly, I would try as you mentioned and pipe the ripped vobs through the internal routines, just remember to select a different folder to rip to.

The fourth try paid off. It finally worked!
There are several things I changed, so I'm not sure what exactly fixed it, but I'm guessing it was CCE settings.

I first reripped the movie using internal routines and saved it in a different folder. As for different settings, I used mpeg2dec2.dll instead of mpeg2dec.dll in the Frameserver tab. In the Bitrate tab I raised the minimum to 500. And in advanced encoding I checked Progressive Frames and Zigzag Scan Order where I didn't before. The reason the weren't checked was, because Bitrate Viewer said interlaced instead of progressive. Well I'm now not going to use Bitrate Viewer and just rip everything with the advanced encoding stuff alone.
