no whole move lenght

please, have pity, somebody give me a clue, I repeat:

sometime, when selecting the IFO file for a ripping, the "movie length" window shows diferent lenghts (11m, 17m, 14m, etc, which in fact are the chapters) but none with the lenght of the whole movie.
How to rip the whole movie then? chapter by chapter?
It shows so, both when trying internal routines or vStreep.

I looked through the avalaible FAQs and found nothing about this, which is strange since if it happens to me maybe once in ten DVDs must have happen to someone else too

Back to your problem:

You gave very few information to us - so it's hard to know where the problem is with that DVD. What about the title of the DVD - perhaps someone has been already successful with it.

I believe your problem is that DVD2SVCD perhaps chose the wrong IFO automatically - so you could try to manually choose another one by hitting the button with the folder symbol and then browse the VIDEO_TS directory on the DVD. (You should try to play the VOBs with a software player in order to see which of them hold the main movie/episodes and then see if there is a different IFO for that.

sorry for reposting and sorry if I didn't gave enough information for others to see my problem, you just often overlook the issue that others are new to your problem.

I read the thread you suggest me, I think I had read it already in fact -I didn't want to be cursed- but is not the same as my case.
Me, I had already the vobs ripped to my HD (with vStrip) some days ago. Now I want to encode the movie. In Conversion/MovieLenght, when it reads the IFO file, in Lenght window it shows different lenghts, like 11m, 17m, 14m, etc, which in fact are the different chapters, but it shows none lenght like 1.45h which might respond to the whole movie.
Then if I was to hit the Go button, it would encode only the chapter which is showing, but not the full movie.
As I can not imagine the solution of encoding every chapter separaredly I wonder whether somebody knows a way out of this or has done with this already.
I dont think it's that rare, I know it has happened to me already 2 or 3 times in the past --and ended up deciding not to encode the movie. But now I would like to...

Hmm,

if you only have the VOBs now I think it's hard to deal with that problem and IIRC we didn't have this kind of problem in here before.

Did you rip the VOBs manually with vStrip or did you use DVD2SVCD's internal support for it? You should try to use DVD2SVCD's internal routines for your future conversions and see if they succeed with these DVDs.

As a possible solution to your specific problem you could try to re-rip the VOBs from your HD with DVD2SVCD's internal routines and see if this helps.

Or you could just use a different IFO from another DVD that has the same parameters (PAL/NTSC, ...) like the VOBs you have - copy it to the directory with the VOBs and adjust it's name to the one of the VOBs - then use the internal routines and re-rip it like described above.

Other than that I see no solution - except ripping again from the original DVD.

The movie length does not mean a thing, it is only an indicator. If the files have been ripped and is residing on the HD (and ripping is disabled) it will convert the entire movie disregarding the movie length data. Gerti67, for clarification, maybe you could answer him in german, just to avoid misunderstandings.

Movie Length = An indicator, the value itself is not being used at all.

Ok, seems I overlooked something - I just assumed cinta already tried to convert it and ended up only with a chapter - I think I have to take off the sunglasses :D - but you're right dvd2svcd.

So here's a translation of DVD2SVCD's reply in German - in case you're German cinta:

Also, die Länge die im "Movie length" Dropdown Feld angezeigt wird hat nichts mit der tätsächlichen Filmlänge zu tun. Wenn die VOBs schon auf der Festplatte sind und "Activate ripping" nicht angewählt ist, dann wird immer der ganze Film konvertiert - egal was in "Movie Length" angezeigt wird. Mit den IFOs ist das halt so eine Sache den kann man nicht so trauen - probier es halt aus.

I'll try now your suggestions: re-ripping with internal routines or finding a compatible IFO.

The process to get to this standstill was, as I remember:
-vobs were to be ripped with vStrip, for later conversion
-vStrip only ripped the 1st chapter
-Surprised enough, I looked through the settings and saw:
-The MovieLenth window was showing only the first chapter. I pulled down the window and saw there a variety of lenghts in minutes, which I rightly asumed they were the chapters. But not at the end nor at the begining was there any amount of minutes to point to, that would look like the whole movie.
-I was in a hurry to return the DVD, so I copied all the vob files directly with windows to the HD.
-I can play now all and each vob separately from the HD, so I know there's the whole movie in and it works.
-As DVD2SVCD suggests, I tried to forget of the lenght and go ahead anyway with conversion, and hit the Go! button: It only converted the 1st chapter; or when tried for that matter, any of the other chapters that would show in the MovieLenght window, presented separatedly as 00:21:17, 00:13:28, 00:17:22, and so forth. Not the full movie.
-May be that tells more of how I got here and help you understand. But again, is not the first time I put a disc to rip into the DVDPlayer and I end up with only one chapter ripped, either using vStrip or SmartRipper.

meine Sprache ist nicht Deutsch. Ich mag aber diese Sprache.
Trotzem habe ich dir und DVD2SVCD auf Englisch sehr gut verstanden und probiere ich mal eure Empfehlungen zu folgen.
