I am encoding DV AVI files in Pal Mpeg2, using 2pass VBR with 2.54a.
I am experiencing a very visible mosquito noise.
My encoding settings are:
max 9800, avg 9000, min 2000
High quality motion search
10bit
I B P 1,3,2
12 frames max

Any clue on how to eliminate this noise, which is especially visible around edges, but pervades also the whole picture?

any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
Paolo

That's very discouraging to hear. I'm just about to take the SCVD2DVD step myself and I figured the days of mosquitos and other artefacts were in the past with bitrates like that :(

Have you perchance told TmpgEnc that your source is progressive even though it's not? That would certainly explain encoding problems.

I myself have just tried DV avi on CCE using 5000 CBR and am very pleased with the result, although somewhat more blurry than the source. I would have expected TmpgEnc to do slightly better given the nature of the source.
