right brightness settings?

when i ripp a dvd and compare it afterwards the dvd with avs-file in virtual dub then the rip is always darker. I extract the movie data with "DVD2AVI" in YUV and PC-colorspace.
i know that i can set the brigntness with "levels", but i don't know how to find the exact settings, which give me the same brightness output as the dvd. it never looks the same.
Is there anybody who is experienced with this settings?

Take a look at this (http://www.lukesvideo.com/videotuning.html) for info on how to tweak brightness/contrast. Personally I prefer to not do anything and then adjust at playback. The less filtering from the original image, the better.
