DVD2VCD: questions regarding start-up delays, offset, overlap and chapters

1. The start-up delay (pack) used in the dvd2vcd bbmpeg settings is 0 rather than the bbmpeg default of 400. Is there a particular reason for this?
2. The movie offset is set to 0, I take it having an offset value > 0 is only an issue with SVCD?
3. CD overlaps and chapters and not supported, I take it this is simply a programming issue? Will it be supported in future? No big deal as with VCD it's easy to do overlap oneself and as for chapters...vcdeasy will do that if need be. Just wondering.

1) defaults are 180 not 0
2) default is 2
3) what are you talking about precisely again? If you wish to splice it at a chapter point simply rip only the first 10 chapters for example and then rip again the last 10 chapters then execute the batch file.
I think it states the default values in the advanced reference.
edit: oops I now take it your referring to VCD not SVCD. So I'm not sure about 1) and 2) now.

I believe the VCD defaults are

1)344
2)0 (2 is for SVCD's) This could change in a future build.
3)You are right. Chapters are not part of the VCD spec. There might be a way to get them though.

Vcd support is very new. Already a bug has been found relating to NTSC encodes. There are also discussions about other various BBmpeg settings. We will need to wait to see what comes of this.

You need to load the VCD.ini file in the DVD2SVCD directory if you haven't already.

Mark, 344 is used as the VCD default in bbmpeg for video, audio 1 and audio 2 startup delays. However, the pack value is 400. So it's 400,344,344,344.

DVD2VCD inputs values of 0,344,344,344 (i.e. the pack value is different). I was just curious as to the reason for this (or possibly concerned it could be an oversight).

To clarify what I meant by 3), the cd overlap feature that allows you to have the last x seconds of disc 1 on disc 2, and the last x seconds of disc 2 on disc 3, etc is greyed out for DVD2VCD. As I said this is easily manually fixed with VCDs though.

As for chapters, well I meant the DVD chapters/fixed chapters that are inserted when making SVCDs.

I thought that chapter support for VCD was introduced as part of VCD 2.0, because that's when PBC was implemented. Having said that I'm far from an expert on the issue.

Maybe CBR rather than CQ should be used, and non-interlace rather than interlace encoding mode.

VCD support is very new and actually a surprise to some of us.
There very well could be settings that could be made better and I would very much like the CD overlap option myself.

I am sure as new releases are made it will mature. It is a newborn afterall, but all the things you stated should be looked at.
