Can I force NTSC?

I tried processing this Goonies DVD rip, and the picture on the screen is squeezed vertically. I went back into the files and saw that the file that CCE generated had "PAL" in it. I chose 4:3 on the conversion tab. Anybody know why it chose PAL, instead of NTSC?

Was this the Region 1 NTSC version of the Goonies?
I think there was only ever one version of the Goonies put out in the U.S.
If it is I will try it and see what happens.

it was a divx (608 X 256) rip I got from the newsgroups.

Any ideas why it converted it to PAL?

It's probably a PAL conversion. What is the framrate of the Avi? If it was 25 then this is a Pal video and will be encoded as PAL.

I'll check the FPS, but can't I just re-encode it at 29.97?

Nope not that simple at all.
Check out the advanced forum and see for yourself.
NTSC->PAL relatively easy
PAL->NTSC royal pain in the butt.

I'm no expert but you might want to edit your avs script and make some CROP or RESIZE changes to increase the vertical size of you video which you can get more info in the AVISYNTH forum. I did the same thing converting a really squashed DivX. I used Crop(0,39,352,212) but you should set the size to your own needs. Do some tests with this command.
