yes am trying to rempeg Oceans 11 to no avail I tried all settings and it's not me or the machine because I have done many movies. very strange pixalation and strobing same as traning day.. I read this could be some new type of macrovision..? Any truth to this..?

I did a backup of the NTSC version of both with no problems but it was with CCE rather than ReMPEG.

I had luck with Training Day using CCE 2.5, but no luck with Oceans 11. Go figure. I used DVD2SVCD in both cases. For Training Day I was able to rip the DVD using the internal routine of DVD2SVCD but with Oceans 11 I had to use vStrip to get it onto the hard drive. Might have something to do with that.

A word for this. I had a similar experience on almost every DVD lately. Some films were fine, except for some strange frame freezing on the final product. It was strange to me because my other computer ripped the same DVD correctly. So I thought that it had to be an Athlon problem... But alas, it all had something to do with the UDMA-100 cable I changed to replace the plain old IDE ribbon. I changed everything back and away were the strange pixellation.

I do not know what kind of pixellation you are referring to. In my case it looked like some blocks were not encoded correctly i.e. there were colour bleeding to the few next frames etc. So classical broken stream. Sometimes even green pixellation or artifacts were apparent like the dataa was ripped with incorrect key or something... In my case the speed of the HDD is not so vital so I did not spend more on this, because it either is that the DVD-ROM did not like to be on that faster IDE bus or then not...

i had problems too with training day using rempeg, but i finally got it to work. not really sure why it eventually worked but it came out perfect. i think it has something to do with how you strip the cell vobs you don't want. like the first vob i didn't need because it was just previews so instead of just deleting that vob i went in and stripped all the cell ids in it that i didn't need. not sure if that is why it worked but it's the only thing i can think of. i am currently doing ocean's 11 so if it comes out ok i'll try and give you some insight.

had that same problem with Oceans 11.

problem was that the first 2 cell id's are in a different screen ratio than the movie...which begins in cell 3 on vob 1.

rempeged 3 times, but still got massive pixellation, etc.

then i thought about taking out every cell id BEFORE the cell id that the movie started in. this worked!

open vob1 in vobedit
demux by cell id to new directory
delete cell id 1 and 2.vob
double click on cell 3.vob to open in vobedit
choose "join cellvob id's"
save it in the original directory.
THEN REMPEG
remux and strip streams.

it worked perfectly!

i just got through using rempeg for ocean's 11, came out perfect for me. there are only 2 cell id's you need, i think they were 7 and 8. of course all i'm interested in is the main movie.

yeah i just stripped a few vob id's and it worked great..! any one know the trick with doing bandits.. have tried on several machines i keep getting the audio out of sinc...? never had that happen before..

I did Bandits, and from I remember I dind't have to do anything special.

OK, I know you guys mentioned having issues with being able to rip Oceans 11 to your HD, tried using vStrip, DVD Decrypter, and Smartrip?

But...DVD Decrypter crashes with ASPI error, vStrip reports error on LBA1, and Smartrip appears to try to rip it, but states that there are a lot of "broken blocks" in VOB_1.03?

Anyone else had this issue, and how were you able to successfully rip to your HD for splitting?

I just barely did Oceans Eleven (the widescreen edition) and I copied the whole movie to my HD with DVD decrypter without any problems. Im sure that doesnt help you much, but the only time I had a problem was with ReMPEG. My problem was that if I kept ID 1, after encoding it there was a lot of pixelation. Then I only kept ID's 3 & 4, to use with ReMPEG and it worked fine.

I've had this before when I foolishly tried to rip a Region 1 DVD in a Region 2 drive.

How would my hard drive be considered a Region 2 drive???

sorry if i didn't explain it right ...

one of my DVD drives is region free, the other is locked to region 2.

when i put a region 1 DVD in the region 2 DVD drive, it came up with the errors that i quoted from one of your posts.

Also, I was trying to follow the guide a few posts up about using VOBedit to demux, then deleting the two cell id's, but..I am a little lost on how to ReMpeg?

Tried it in Rempeg, I presume you have to do it to each file, then it creates a seperate file with .inf extension?

So, not sure what to do from that point? It says to Rempeg, then remux and strip streams, but...not sure what program will recognize the .inf file?

I have finally made a back up of Ocean's 11 by ripping it with Smartripper and processing with DVD2SVCD with CCE encoding.

I think a lot of it does depend on your DVD's condition, I would guess that rental DVD's might often be a poor candidate for this reason.

So, not sure since several people have mentioned they have had trouble if it is not something wrong in the mastering of it or what??

I suppose it would be fair to say that this not an exact science, too many variables between hardware, software and the source to predict an outcome.

Wow, this is really weird! I just came into this forum because I had the same problem as some of you guys. I ripped Ocean's 11 with no problems using SmartRipper, and then stripped it down to just the movie and the AC-3 soundtrack using IfoEdit, and at this point everything still looked great (using PowerDVD). After transcoding it with ReMPEG2, I got the same blocky, jumpy, pixellated problems that you guys have described. I tried transcoding it about 6 times using different settings, but still no luck. Then, for no apparent reason, the 7th time it came out great, but what really bugs me is that I don't know why. The next movie I tried was Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and now I have the exact same problem again. Does anyone have the definitive answer as to what is going on here?

Is it a Warner Bros film? Thats where I had the problem with Oceans Eleven, in the first ID that has the WB logo. When I ReMPEG with that ID, I got pixelation. But as soon as I took that ID out, it came out perfect. Maybe you should try that, unless its not a WB film.

It's not a Warner Brothers film, but I think you are on to something. When I ReMPEG'd the movie, I noticed that VOB ID 1 (cell 1) looked perfect (about 25 seconds long). That included the logo, the film title and the first few seconds of the film itself. The next cell (cell 2) is listed as VOB ID 2, and this is where the problems begin. Can I use VobEdit to remove cell 1, move it to another directory, then rejoin the other cells and process the rest of the film with ReMPEG2? And then use VobEdit to rejoin the first cell back onto the transcoded film? Or is there an easier way?

Ok, I think I got Jay and Silent Bob working (I'm testing it as I write this). Here's how I got it:

1. Use IfoEdit to get rid of the multi-angle crap
2. Strip the streams and subtitles
3. Use VobEdit to demux by Vob ID (first .VOB only). Put the small first part in a dir by itself and use the bigger part to replace the first VOB of the set.
4. ReMPEG2 the whole movie (which no longer contains VOB ID 1).
5. Now use VobEdit to rejoin the first ID (that you saved in a separate dir) to the ReMPEG'd movie.
6. Create new IFO's using IfoEdit and don't forget to change the audio track info and subtitle info.
7. And of course don't forget to get vectors.

Now the movie seems to work just fine. There is a slight pause right where I rejoined the small piece at the beginning back onto the rest of the movie, but it is very watchable now :)

Cool! Glad you figured it out. I am in the process of doing the exact same thing. Remuxing takes me about half a day so I'm still waiting. Even just watching the .vob with the removed cell ID begins with a pause so I was worried about that happening, but at least I can watch the damn movie now.

Well, I got the whole thing remuxed, looks great. Did all the steps in ifoedit and when I tried to burn with Instant CD/DVD, I got the following error message:

When I burned with prassi, I got no errors, however, the xbox and ps2 both couldn't recognize the disc so neither would play it. PowerDVD played it fine and so did Ravisent Software Cinemaster (on my comp). I want to watch these on my TV though.

Are there guides for how to use ReMPEG2 and VobEdit?

I was able to demux by VOB ID and ended up with the 21.7MB small file and the 0.97GB large file as described in Step 3.

When I tried to ReMPEG2 as described in Step 4, I processed each VOB file separately and ended up with the .99GB VOB files and the 1K VINF files. Did I do that right?

But in Step 5, I'm not sure how to rejoin the ID to the ReMPEGd movie with VobEdit.

And in Step 7, what does "get the vectors" mean?

I'm pretty much a n00b.. done quite a few DivXs, but using DVD Decrypter and Flask, so all these other programs are pretty new to me. I've been searching for guides, but been having a hard time finding the info I need.

No, that's where you made your mistake. After step 2, you should have a set of files that include VTS_01.IFO, VTS_01.BUP, and VTS_01_x.VOB (where x = 1 through 5). When you perform step 3, VobEdit will give you 2 files named VTS_01_001.VOB and VTS_01_002.VOB. You must rename VTS_01_002. VOB to VTS_01_1.VOB and then move it to the directory where you have the stripped files VTS_01_x.VOB, overwriting the original VTS_01_1.VOB. . Now you have a new set of .VOBs gathered in one dir and then you ReMPEG the entire set at one time using ReMPEG2. This will create a .m2v file of ~4 gigs. You then use IfoEdit to remux the .m2v file with the audio from the .VOBs (all of these files should be in the same directory). Just make sure that the destination directory for the remux is different or you will run into big problems. I hope this is clear :)

Oops, that's a mistake. When you have your final set of IFO/BUP/VOB's, open any IFO and hit the button marked "Get VTS sector". Sorry for the confusion.

I'm having a little trouble figuring out ReMPEG v1.5.2. Under the Tools tab, I select MPEG2 Video Stream Exchange Tool.

Under Original VOB, I select VTS_01_1.VOB.
Under Final VOB, I select VTS_01_5.VOB
Under New MPEG2 Video Stream, what do I select?

Under the Options tab, I changed the output resolution to 720x480, but everything else is set to defaults.

What other options should I choose, and is anything I've listed here wrong?

Sorry, bt you are not using ReMPEG2 correctly. Go to the guides on this site. At the bottom, go to "Document Overview". You will find complete list of all the guides on the site. Go to the "DVD stuff" section and you will find "ReMPEG2 guide" there. It will explain everything to you :)

I used DVD Decrypter on the two movies and had no problems except that there was no IFO. It plays fine on my PC.
