Audio static in captured files

I need some help.

Whenever I capture a video file I will get audio static. For the first 40 seconds of the capture there is no static at all, then for the rest of the video there is this semi-high pitch static noise.

I've swapped out the audio cable that runs from the capture card to the sound card and that did not solve the problem. Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this static or has anyone had this happen?

Are you capturing with noncompressed wav? Since you didnt state what source you are recording from line in? Some cheap audio cards will hiccup with certain motherboard types. You might have to reduce your line in volume. Do your mpeg audio compression in the final stage usually will prevent this from happening. PCI latency can cause this effect on some situations. IRQ sharing can cause this, etc....

This has been a problem with Creative sound cards and Via chipsets. What is your hardware?

I have a creative soundcard and viachipset and no problem whatsoever.

BUT you need to install recent drivers of course.

It's more likely the pci latency or the shared IRQs.
