Repair damaged avi file?

I've got a CD containing a Rip of the movie "Fightclub" (great movie!!!). So far it's fine, but if watch the movie about 1 hour (total lenght ca. 2 hours) WMP says "Das Dateiformat ist ungültig" which means sth like "The file format is invalid". The CD is Ok!!! I can copy he whole movie to HD without any problems! The avi seems to be damaged. Is there any way to fix it?

Try DivFix 1.07 (called "DivX Fix 1.07" at Doom9's downloads). I used it with success.

I have a 134MB file of 20 minutes, it's damaged, I tried VirtualDub 1.4.10 with aggressive mode/rekeying & another time without aggressive mode/rekeying but in compatibility mode and after video -> scan video for errors
In both cases I got after saving an only 80MB file with the first 13 minutes
Same thing after rebuilding index in DivX FiX 1.07

Any other solution to repair that AVI?

There is probably a few bad frames after ~13 minutes. What you can do is save the first part, skip the bad frames, then you save the second part. So you basically cut out those bad frames. The problem is then to find the bad frames, which can be a little work, but is should be possible.

Thanks for the advice, but it doesn't work.
Opening the file in aggressive mode will automatically ignore all frames after Frame 9819 (the video has 12fps)
Opening the file in compatibility mode and trying to go further than frame 9819 ends with a failure (Frame 9820 is corrupted)
Scanning for video erros says that there is 7500 frames that are masked and that can't be decoded.
I think the one that made this file has made only one keyframe at the very beginning of the video, all other ones are delta frames I guess, so that if one frame is corrupt, all following can't be decoded :(

Well, if you don't find any other solution and the quality isn't a very big issue you can use TMPGEnc to compress it to MPEG (and then back to AVI again if you want). TMPGEnc seems to handle errors much better than VDub.

TMPGEnc encodes the file entirely but all frames after 9816 are black

there is a little program called AviDeFreezer (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/avidefreezer.zip) that does this, and works quite well. I use it all the time. Its just that as far as i can tell it wont fix VBR MP3 audio containing movies. I have a few of those with errors, so i'm going to empty my HDD out, then dumb an uncompressed WAV out, fix the video, then recompress the Audio and combine it with the video.....so hopefully that will work, but if anyone has a better method i'd like to know.

have you watched the log of it before it crashes?
if its just after fixing the bad stream its because you havent entered a file extention (eg: .avi)
other than that you most probably have a broken index on the file, and i have absolutly no idea on how to fix those.

Yes, I entered the extension, and yes, it has a corrupt index :(

Same thing as VirtualDub & co, AviPreview generates an 80MB AVI with the first 13min39sec, all following frames are ignored
