AVI capture with Radeon VIVO

While capturing in Mpeg 1/2 works very well, capturing in AVI via ATI's 'Video In' program or Windows's WDM capt. driver has lot of problems.
Of course I get newest drivers for XP and Win98SE. But in Win98 after many reinstall I still get message that no capture device.

In XP it works, however max vert. res. is 288. I don't know is it hardware limit or software problem. Other problem is that stupid ATI's program (I must say so, I expected better software after reviews) doesn't allow codec settings.

And, since I didn't test it: will capture in Mpeg stop after 4 GB, or 'Video In' can multisegment capture ?

With ATI´s MMC, for now I capture only to mpeg-2, but this works quite well.
My last mpeg-2 capture was ~12 GByte, this seems to be no problem under WinXP. Can´t tell you anything about how things are under Win98, I kept it only for very bad cases (I still don´t understand how I was able to work so many years with that sucking memory management)

As for AVI captures and resolutions, this is a well-known problem ... I think it was resolved with the latest driver releases, but I´m not sure. I recommend to have a look at the forums over at www.rage3d.com , there is really a lot of useful information to be found for us ATI users.

Thanks Didee... Did you capture to NTFS or Fat32 ?

Yes, I forgot to mention that ...
Indeed, I capture to NTFS. The capturing partition is one of three partitions on a 2*60GB-RAID0, would be a shame to waste space by using FAT32 I think.
(Remark: the third partition is a 16GB-FAT32, for those really bad cases ... ;) )

Yeah, I checked it... It can't split in more files.
I will change one of my 20 GB partitions to NTFS...

Looked at rage3d.com forum. It seems that lot of people have similar problems with capture.
