Colored dots in Xvid playback

When I playback an Xvid file created using Vidomi I get random colored dots (mostly green) in any player except WMP 8.0 and Vidomi player. even WMP 6.4 show these dots. :confused:

Otherwise the quality is great.:)

Anyone has an idea what the cause and the solution to this probloem might be?

You're probably using DivX's decoder to play the movie instead of XviD's. You can check/change it with a proggie in Doom9's download section (sorry forgot the name).

When ever people are reporting bugs can people please state as much info as possible:

i.e.
What version & date of XviD are you using? (i.e. Mine, Koepi's, uManiac's, etc)

What DShow filter are using to decode it? (i.e. are using the one with no post-processing, mine or ffdshow)

Does the bug occur with every encode you do or just the one clip?

Does it occur when using AviSynth(no filters)->VDub?

Your computer config (Media Players, Hardware)

I use the latest version of Nic's xvid (2/5/2002 if I am correct), but have this problem with all versions of Xvid I have used (always Nic's versions from end march 2002 and onwards)

Next I have used Nicks Dshow filter as ffdshow with no difference.

It occurs with ALL xvid movies I have created

I have never used Avisynth

And I have an Athlon XP 1800+ with Asus Mobo using the Via K266A chipset (with the latest 4in1 drivers). I use Windows XP and have experienced the probloem with the following players:

- Zoom player
- Radlight player
- WMP 6.4
- wmp4player
- Micro DVD Player
- Powerdivx Nextgen

Hope this information helps identify the problem.

Is it possible to get this information shown on the codec screens so when you configure the codec through vdub you know what version and whose build you are using?

The fourcc changer gives the following information back:

"FourCC description code" Xvid
"FourCC used coded" Xvid

Do I make an correct assumption that if I change the "used coded" value to one of MP4x values, playback shoudl be fine?

I will give it a try.

I just changed the codec settings from XVID to DIVX and the colored dots disappeared! :p :p

Well we could manually add it before compiling...But surely people know what codec theyve downloaded & installed? :)

This leaves me speechless... ;) I have a feeling it's OK to leave it at that and not to try and tickle more info out of Goofer.

I have the same problem. Installing DivX 5 messes up the XviD DSF and I also get colored dots. If you uninstall DivX 5, you'll see the problem go away.

There must be more to it that that - I have DivX 5 and XviD coexisting on the same machine with no trouble at all, and certainly no coloured dots.

Yeah, there are probably other reasons for why this occurs. I was too quick to say that this is the reason...
