Colour depth of animated movie encoded with DivX Pro 5.0

I encoded Disney's Tarzan (animated) using DivX Pro 5.0 2-pass.
Also used the AVS generated by GKnot, VDub 1.4.10 and Fast Reprocessing as the Doom9 DivX5 guide recommends.

When I look at the Explorer Properties, Details for Tarzan.avi, it tells me the movie is only 16 bits, not 24 bits as I would have expected. I should add that it also wrongly shows the runtime as 84 min 48.80 s, instead of 84 min 48.08 s (calculated from number of frames and 25.000 fps).

Using Fast Reprocess in VDub has Color Depth greyed out as one would expect, so does this mean the original was only 16 bits?

I have posted this here as after carefully looking at the forums available, this is as good as any. Also I'm fairly new to DivX5 encoding so don't quite know what to expect.

Can't your eyes see the difference between a real 16 bit video and 24 bit one?
It has been said many times that windows explorer can not identify YUV color format proper since it is generated via the original format of MPEG2.

I switched to DivX pro v5.0.1 and encoded a normal colour movie.
Even though I used Fast Reprocess to do so, Windows Explorer, Properties, Details reported it as 24 bit.

Hmmm... what made the difference - was it 5.0.1 - the original animated feature which reported as 16 bit was encoded with DivX Pro 5.0. Or something else??? :confused:

Well if you chose fast recompress you would see it as 16 bits in any circumstance.
Maybe you encoded an already 24 bit RGB file. Tell me you didn't.

VDub used the AVS produced by GKnot0.23b - Source was the D2V created by DVD2AVI from the original VOBs. PC scale.

Older DivX 4 and 5 versions seem to produce 16-bit files (which refers to YV12 encoding, so nothing bad)

I encoded yesterday a video using the usual method (AVS and fast recompress mode in VD) with 5.02, I obtained a 24-bit file.

The color still the same, so you can ignore that type of information delivered from windows, your video has full color depth anyway.
