Okay, so I'm a moron. I meant to hit ] in virtualdub, I hit F6 instead. It's not the first time either. Yes, there's the auto-increment setting just to avoid that problem, but as I said, I'm a moron. Actually I don't use it because the commercials tend to make the a/v sync go nuts so I stop and start in between, and a lot of the time I have to start it several times before it will settle on the right framerate again.

Anyway, I pretty much concede that the first segment is gone as the beginning of the file got overwritten by the capture. But the other segments ought to be recoverable. I've tried in the past without success with Easy Recovery, does anyone have any other suggestions while I wait the 6 hours for ER to scan the drive?

It's just really maddening that 99.9% of the data is still there but it's all gone. It seems to me like vdub ought to be able to undo the delete of the other segments easily enough, or a dedicated recovery program could search the drive for frames and reconstruct the file better than a generic recovery tool that really isn't designed to be looking for 2 gig files.

Hi there.
I recently had an accident while i was having a mad capture drive clean up after spending seven hours doing an encode, i ended up deleting the source capture files AND the final xvid copy!!!

Tried a briliant app called 'directory snoop 4.0' which i found at
http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10000.html
Unlike alot of the others, it is only restricted to no. of uses, not recoverd filesize. Doesn't work on NTFS though.

It worked brilianly for me on win98se, recovered the first episode of 'auf weidersehen pet'. But i missed captureing the 2nd episode!!!!
You think you're stupid!
