VCD option in DVD2SVCD 1.0.9 B1 not working

I just tried the VCD option of DVD2SVCD 1.0.9 build 1 last night and the end result is an MPEG1 file, but not a VCD. I used CCE to do the encoding and loaded the VCD template.

What I found:

Bitrate - Was 1150bps but VBR was turned on, should be off for VCD.
Pic Size - Was 352x480, should be 352x240 for an NTSC VCD.
Interlacing - Was Interlaced, must be off for a VCD.
Audio - Correct.

Is there something I've missed or is this new version not really able to do a correctly spec'd VCD ?

Any help appreciated.

I think if you scroll down in this thread you will find a post from DVD2SVCD- In it he describes how to make standard VCD's. Though why you would make a VCD when you could make a SVCD is beyond me.

You need to load the VCD.ini file. This will change all the settings needed to VCD standard. If you want to go back to SVCD's you then need to load the SVCD.ini file.

This will be added to the guide and Q + A as soon as I get time.

352*480 ups, my bad. Will be fixed (ofcourse). This btw only happens on ntsc.

markrb, yes I did load the VCD.ini file in but those are the results I got.

dvd2svcd, I will try the forum attached version tonight.

Did not know about the error. I figured that you hadn't loaded the ini. It's a very easy mistake to make, believe me I did it.

Tried the forum attached version (Build 2 pre 2) and now pic size is correct. Thanks a million.

One small prob still exists however, the VBR flag is still turned on in the final MPEG, even though CBR is selected.

Select CBR in the bbMPEG advanced settings.

huh..you mean uncheck VBR if it's checked in bbmpeg settings? or did you mean check cbr in encoder tab?

Thanks guys, but I had VBR un-checked in bbMPEG advanced (sorry I had failed to mention that).

I use Bitrate Viewer ( from http://www.tecoltd.com/bitratev.htm ) and it also confirms the VBR is on.

If you look at the settings used in tmpgenc then CQ is used and interlace used for encode mode.

A template leeched via a link at vcdhelp (pinoy's template) uses CBR and non-interlace mode. So I'd be cancelling the video encoding and using those settings instead.

I tried to make my own project file (and associated matrices) (3 files total) read only but when DVD2SVCD can't overwrite these files it doesn't use them, instead it just stops with an "access denied" message. Not particularly important though.

Matthew, thanks for the reply. Yes I understand all the TMPGEnc settings, but I'm trying to see what CCE can do to convert to VCD.

I normally use the DVD2AVI/TMPGEnc method for VCD's and DVD2SVCD/CCE for SVCD. Would like to use CCE for making VCD's and get a speed increase over TMPGEnc and hopefully a quality increase. I like what I see at the moment, just the files created are not 100% VCD compliant, thats all.

I didn't read your post properly, I just assumed you had used tmpgenc. The reason being that, AFAIK tmpgenc is way superior to CCE for VCD. So my comments were in the context of tmpgenc producing non-compliant VCDs. I don't know if they are indeed non-compliant, the settings just seem a little odd.
