View Full Version : BeSweet & frequency response

I did notice my DVD2SVCD encodes the audio a little soft for my tastes.
1. Is there any parameters I can change, so I can have better treble response?
2. It seems to me that center channel takes too much load, concentrating too much L+R channels (or is the L and R channel a little lower volume). Any ideas about that?
BTW, I found the mix to rear channel to be VERY good.
My parameters
* 224kbps
* all mixes at 0dB
* Dynamic compression : NONE
* Stereo downmix: Surround
* -f and -n: OFF
TIA,

as you might know, BeSweet supports external DSP plugins.
if you're a programmer, i encourge you to code a plugin that will shape the signal to please your ears.
source-code example of BeSweet plugin can be found on my webpage.

DSPGuru,
I can't do better nor I can do it at all!!
I don't like to shape source signal either. I simply don't shape my original sound as I think it should be just like it is supposed to be (just like the image...).
I did find the sound stage a little over-concentrated in center channel and it seems to me that treble response is away down from original source.
Perhaps that's a consequence from downmix to Dolby Surround?
You wrote, that you are using 0db for all channels.
As I remember, Dolby recommends using 0db for L and R, but -3 db for rear L,R and C !
Then the center should not be amplified too much anymore.
Personally i use 0 db for rears, because rear channels are mostly too low used by producers of music or movies.
Something else, perhaps addressed to Midas, author of azid.exe:
Would it be possible to mix the LFE channel into C, that means L+R, or even into (L + R (+C) + RL + RR) ?
At the moment it seems to me, that LFE is mixed only into L, (or into only R, as I read in docs).
It is not sounding very well, if low frequencies come only out of Left Main speaker.
The other speakers want to give out low frequencies, too.....
Or is Besweet (has it a possibility to do so ?) able to distribute the LFE channel to L+R during downmixing 5.1 to stereo ?
Then it would be very nice, if a DS2 downmix possibility would be integrated into azid, into Besweet, too.
At the moment I use HeadAC3he for downmixing 5.1 to Stereo wave DS2.
Then I batch_process these waves with Besweet from 48 kHz to 44,1 kHz (ssrc.exe1.29_hp) to eg. mp2 (toolame.exe_win32), sometimes mp3 (lame 3.91 with --altpresets, sometimes with added extra commands)
