I have been reading through the whole CCE + IFOEDIT thread.. and I must say it is very helpful..

I am especially asking Jerret, Joseph, tconnect, Eyes only.

I would like to verify something...

My IFO has 76 cells and 51 chapters...

First thing, before I start first pass encode with CCE and set the chapter positions, do I need to set the I-frame for every single cell or just for the frame of the actually chapter timestamp??

Secondly, when using Scenarist... Do I need to create a scene for every single cell so that it matches up with the original IFO, and then copy the new IFO cell info to the old one????

Last, the Scenarist created VOB set only has one PGC with one VOB ID. And the original has one PGC with 5 VOB IDs. Will this conflict with the original IFO file because it is maybe configured to use 5 VOB IDs? Basically, What all has to match between the Scenarist IFO and the original one??

1) You only have to set the i frames for the chapters. This makes sure that the scene creator in scenarist locks in to or close to the correct frame.

2) You have to create the same amount of scenes as cells. Use Ifoupdate posted as an attatchment in the sticky thread CCE/Ifoedit. It copies the cell information and VOB ID information

3)In Ifoedit, expand the VTS_PGCITI and click on the PGC. Scroll all the way down and you will see the VOB ID assignments for the cell. Just make sure they match the ones of the scenarist generated IFO. Scenarist will make one VOB ID and you will have to set the cells to reside in VOB ID 1. Im not sure if you will experience any playback problems if you do not match the VOB IDs. Never tried it, i always changed them. IfoUpdate changes this for you as well.

I have another question about multiple PGCs.


First, If my movie vob set has 8 PGCs, do I actually have to make 8 PGCs in Scenarist and then distrubute the scenes to their appropriate PGCs??

If so, PGC1 is the main movie which uses VOB IDs 1-5.

VOB IDs 6-13 are in different PGCs. And of course the Scenarist Vob set will only have 1 VOB ID. My other question is where exactly would I look to find out exactly which frames or timestamps belong in each individual PGC 2-8???

I can do this, because when I created the DVD2AVI project and encoded it was made with all 13 VOB IDs, and not just the VOB IDs from PGC1 (IDs 1-5).


Again, I really appreciate the response, and have a much greater understanding and ability to do it right now.

Using smartripper you must extract the individual PGCs using stream processing and demux to file. After having those individual PGCs you can encode them to your liking. After that you can recreate the IFO structure in scenarist by importing all the files and making multiple PGCs in the layout editor.

Remember that multiple PGCs usually means multiple Titles. In my experience almost every time you have multiple PGCs, they are in separate TTNs. So, when authoring the scenario in Scenarist, you need to create new titles, then put each pgc into its corresponding title.

Also, from what i know, pgcs and the like are only really in ifos. There isnt any actual data on the vob that corresponds to a pgc or title. So, changing the vobids shouldn't be necessary. To further illustrate this fact, I've NEVER changed my vobids in my original ifo when copying cell information over. Admittedly, ifoupdate seems to do this for you, but when I copied just the cell info over, I never copied vobids, and everything always works fine. This is because the vobid is assigned in the ifo, and they already match to everything else in the ifo, so they don't need to be touched. Just thought I'd throw some more info to facilitate your methods.
