Disc Not Formatted to Play on Machine...

I have a DVD of "Goldfinger, Special Edition DVD", that gives me a "THIS DISC IS NOT FORMATTED TO PLAY ON THIS MACHINE. PLEASE RETURN THIS DISC TO THE PLACE OF PURCHASE" when I try to play it on the computer. I ripped everything to HD, then used IFOEdit to find out which titles were being used for the main movie (which was only 3.8GB) - turns out to be 1,4 and 6. I copy these over to a separate directory and test them with PowerDVD. Power plays them up until where the main movie would start, then IT gives me the error above. IFOEdit, however, plays everything okay, so I know the movie has been transfered. A DVD-RW burned with these files only doesn't even load.

I looked in the PGCI part of the .IFOs and there is a hell of a lot of register loading and comparing going on (I imagine that it is trying to find out where it is being played).

Is there a way that I can keep these original parts of the movie (it has some cool menus)? I really don't want to have to reauthor this disc because of the cool menus (but I will, if I have to).

What surprised me most of all, is that the DVD-RW wouldn't even load to the FIRST PLAY part of the movie.

Where should I look to try to fix this?

Are you completely sure you clicked "Region Free" in IFOEdit? Check all your IFO's and make sure you're good. Even though the ripping software says it will make them region free, I've not seen it work yet. I've seen the exact error you're getting and it wasn't corrected until I made the IFO's region free in IFOEdit.

I had some simular problems you are having when trying to split some of my first dvd's. Once I got my first split to work I went back and worked on some of my failures and got them to finally work. Is all I had was the Bad Non-working DVDR's to work with.

Did you use the Play DVD function of IfoEdit prior to burning. I have found doing this prior to burning and just fast forwarding through each chapter will show you any errors in the structure.

I copied the VOB's from VIDEO_TS directory back to my hard drive and then used IfoEdits, create IFO's feature. I then copied the VIDEO_TS files (IFO,BUP,VOB's) to the directory. I opened the VIDEO_TS.IFO and 1st ran "Make Region Free" Then Strip Pop Up's, Then "Get Sectors". I then Opened any other IFO's and did Get Sectors.

Once completed I Used the Play DVD Feature of IfoEdit and this time it played without errors so I burned them again and they now play fine on both my pc and settop player.

All you have to do is open every ifo hit region free.. the first one should bring up a box that say pick region. Pick your region, only pick one.! not all. you also have to save the ifo if rce is detected
So if I hit 1st ifo and rce is detected the box pops up I pick region 1 and then i save ifo it say overwrite .bup i say ok move to the next ifo if rce is detected I save the ifo after it's done doing it's thin etc

Look, guys, this has NOTHING to do with the region. This is a REGION 1 DVD being played in a REGION 1 player. Let me re-iterate:
1) ORIGINAL disk would NOT play in the computer. It gave me the error above (NOTICE THAT THE ERROR SAYS "MACHINE", NOT "REGION".
2) I ripped the ENTIRE disk to a HD.
3) PowerDVD would play until the point where the movie should start, then IT gave the same error as above.
4) IFOEdit played everything perfectly.
5) I then copied all the essential parts to another directory, using titles identified by IFOEdit.
6) PowerDVD would only play as before (up to where the movie started).
7) IFOEdit played everything perfectly.
8) A test burn of these files wouldn't load on a set top DVD.

What I really need is someway to SINGLE STEP through the DVD to find out what branches it is taking (and possible where the offending "code" is). I have been inserting EXIT commands (which will stop the execution of the DVD) as BREAK POINTS and I am SLOWLY working this out.

(P.S. For those interested, the EXIT command is 30 01 00 00 00 00 00 00, but you only need the first two bytes. To temperarily insert an EXIT at a point, WRITE DOWN THE CURRENT FIRST TWO VALUES, then replace the first two bytes with 30 01. If this doesn't work, just replace the 30 01 with the original two bytes.)
