AVI2SVCD Muxing problem / Video and audio perfect / muxed file A/V Sync bad and jerky

This is my first attempt at AVI2SVCD(VCD). I have a Divx video I wish to convert to a VCD. When I played the mpg file in WinDVD the audio is so badly out of sync I can't even tell how far it is off and the video is terribly jerky. If I play the audio file(mp2) alone it is perfect and the log says as much. If I play the Mpv file it is perfect and no problem with jerky video. I can find nothing wrong in the log(I will attach it). I can only assume that the issue is in the muxing process in bbmpeg. I did manually mux the files using TMPG's simple muxer and the video and audio are in sync and there is no jerky motion of the video. I did get an underrun error after the mpg was created, but it seems ok.

I am going to try a manual mux with BBmpeg as well, but I am no expert with that program. In my very uninformed mind I believe it is a setting that may need to be altered in BBmpeg that may fix my issue.

My goal of this post is two fold.
1. To see if I did do something wrong or if this is an issue with DVD2SVCD. If it is an issue with DVD2SVCD. I hope to be able to find the root cause and offer a good report to DVD2SVCD so he can work to solve the issue. VCD support is new and in conjunction with this being an AVI doubly difficult.

2. To hopefully find a solution to my problem and possibly the problems of others.

Just noticed that Pulldown is not being done and I don't see the option in AVI2SVCD. If the video is meant to be a VCD or an SVCD and the framerate is 23.976 shouldn't pulldown be done on the mpeg file? Could this be the cause of my problem or am I stretching?

Another just noticed pulldown is not there for Mpeg-1. Is this not available for Mpeg-1 and this is why it's missing?

Told you I was new to VCD's and AVI2VCD.

I have spent the better part of an hour working to get BBmpeg to mux the files without error and at a decent size.

I have not been able to solve the Synch issue, but I was going to work on that after I got the video to play correctly after being muxed. With the VCD setting I was able to get it to mux without errors, but to get it to mux this way the filesize ended up huge and this did not solve the jerky video either. I also tried muxing it as Mpeg-1, but that worked no better.

I have given up as I fear I am not advanced enough in BBmpeg to get it to work correctly.

I am doing an experiment to see if it works using VCD resolution with an mpeg-2 SVCD and how well it looks at low bitrates.

If this fails or is not as good as the Mpeg-1 VCD I created mostly with AVI2VCD, but muxed with TMPG then I can just do it that way. It only adds one step.

The reason Pulldown hasn't been run is because you use TMPGEnc as then encoder. I have set TMPGEnc to do the pulldown internally), but maybe that fails when doing AVI2SVCD, I will investigate that. According to you description it seems not to be working.

I am about to incorporate BeSplit into avi2svcd, users that have tried this on the extracted avi audio file has reported good sync success using BeSplit to fix the audio stream.

I just had another BBmpeg issue now when I was doing Mpeg-2 video with CCE and creating a low bitrate SVCD.

The MPV plays perfectly fine, the Mp2 audio file is perfectly fine. The muxed video is now black. There is video, but it is very, very dark just the hint of something happening while the audio plays.

There was a BBmpeg error about it couldn't find an I-Frame, but that error did not get into the log.

CCE had no issues and seems to have done a pretty good job encoding the video. Pulldown did activate and that video plays perfect as well.

The issue with the Sync seems to be different then the others are having and fixing with Besplit. I get no errors in the BeSweet log file and it is being converted without an issue.

This maybe just this Avi file and I will continue to experiment. At this point I would be happy just to get the video working after it has been Muxed. I can adjust the audio offset if I have to, but I can't do anything about the video not working or being very jerky.

Once again if I Mux with TMPG instead of BBmpeg it works fine.

I will continue to try and work through this.

2 things:

1. Are you sure you are using the default values in bbMPEG? If you're unsure, double click the SVCD radio button in bbMPEG that will fill in the default values.

2. If the above doesn't help, would it be possible for me somehow to get that AVI to experiment on it. PM me on this issue.

For grins I uninstalled 1.09 and installed 1.08. I replaced the Avisynth.dll with the new one and tried another encode with CCE using Mpeg-2.
Same thing. A BBmpeg error about cannot find user data for I-Frame 7214(this time, before it was 7215). The Mux itself proceded without issue, but when it did the scan for SVCD offset this error happened.
I am trying once more, without adjusting BBmpeg. This time with CBR CCE and if this fails I will go to advanced BBmpeg settings and see what shutting off Add SVCD offset does.

DVD2SVCD should have this file for testing shortly. In a way I hope it's a bad file. I would much rather have this be the source of a problem then anything within the program.

I am 99.99% sure I fixed the problem. When doing CBR made no difference I went into advanced options of BBmpeg and unchecked Add SVCD Scan Offset. Now the video on my computer plays perfect and in sync. I have no idea what this setting is and if it wasn't for that error that it couldn't find user data for SVCD offset I never would have thought to try it.
It just so happens that on the CBR encode BBmpeg did not error, but there was still no video. I even attempted to de-mux it in TMPG, but it did not see the video, only the audio in the mpg.
Now I just need to burn it and try it in my DVD player.


I was just thinking that I don't think that this setting is available for a VCD. So why didn't that work?

I am re-doing the video to see if I can successfully do it twice in a row.

Final update: I did the encode three times to make sure I had solved it and they all worked perfect on my computer and more importantly on my DVD player when I uncheck SVCD offset in the advanced tab of BBmpeg.

So if you are having problems like I described try it, but leave it at default unless you are having problems. It's default for a reason, although I have no idea what it does. That doesn't make it unimportant, just shows I don't know BBmpeg as well as I could. :rolleyes:

Pleasee tell me if I can try, or send, anything - also how do I find the Advaced tab of BBmpeg to try the aformantiond techniques - maybe I'm brain dead, but I don't see one??? The settings tab is greyed out (inactive) when I run

On the Misc tab you must change the DVD2SVCD level to advanced. Then on the BBmpeg tab you will see a dropdown for BBmpeg settings this will bring up the BBmpeg options screen. Im my case I just unchecked Add Scan for SVCD offsets.
