Is there a better encoding software for reducing bitrates than ReMpeg2 and TMPGEnc as they are too slow (12 -14 hrs)? Is there a graphics card that just focuses on MPEG-2 transcoding to help speed up the process? Waiting over 14 hrs is just taking the piss!

As for a card that speeds up encoding, I've not personally seen one. Perhaps there is a professional level card that does but it's probably expensive. I have a Pinnacle DVD1000 card that does realtime capturing to DVD-compliant MPEG2 format but it's best at CBR, not VBR. I would stick with CCE when it comes to VBR.
