View Full Version : movie encoded twice in one file

Hi guys.
I had quite a strange problem when encoding "She's all that" (RC2) with DVD2SVCD 1.0.8 build 1. I used DVD2AVI to rip, but the extracted / encoded sound files have the double size. I have 2 files (2 languages), each with 183 min. After 91:30 (the original length of the movie), the sound begins again in the same language. The same thing happend when encoding the video with CCE 2.5 (and I was wondering why it took 18 hrs. to encode ;-): I have a big .mpv file which has the same movie 2 times in it.
Don't know about you, but in my eyes this is pretty weird.
Does anyone have a clue what I can do about it?

It's hard to tell anything without logs.
Read the Mandatory post and try again.

I'm sorry, but I thought the whole post looks quite "messy" with a log in it (at least to me), so I thought maybe anyone already knows the problem. But anyway, here we go; the dvd2svcd_log.txt:

I hope you don't worry about the different dates. The following log was from a crash-recovery-file, so I started the whole process again (with the same result) to get the missing parts (as seen above), but I stopped the audio-encoding.

I quit the process here 'coz I saw the problem after opening the "bbMPEG_Muxed_File01.mpg"-files (movie start again in the middle of the file). It's the first time that this happened, all other rips worked fine. I don't think the Avisynth_Script_File is needed, since the same problem also happens with the sound (the .ac3 files are 600 MB huge). If you need any more infos, please let me know.
Thanx

Do not use anything, but the included rippers. If you used any other program to rip the DVD I suspect this is your problem. Rip with DVD2SVCD's included rippers only.
If you read the Q + A or DVD2SVCD FAQ this is clearly stated in both.
If you used the included rippers while having the AVI2SVCD option selected re-rip after making sure you have DVD2SVCD selected.

I did use die DVD2SVCD-ripper and I had the "DVD2SVCD"-option turned on as the DVD2SVCD FAQ says it, so it has nothing to do with it. I don't have the DVD here right now, so I can't rip it again. May there be errors during the ripping-process? I ask because the DVD had many scratches on it.
PowerDVD XP won't play the .vob files on my HDD and MicroDVD plays only the first one (I get an error message when opening one of the others). I also noticed that the first .vob is 2 KByte smaller than the other ones.

I was confused because you stated:
I used DVD2AVI to rip,
That threw me off.
Can you open the VOB files using DVD2AVI?
If it does use the slider and see if for some reason the DVD was ripped twice. Maybe there are two versions on the DVD and it accidently ripped both, but I am only guessing.
The VOB files should be able to be played by PowerDVD if you have the 4.0 version which I think is the XP release, but mine says 4.0 not XP.
If you have WinDVD 3.0 see if that will play the Vob's.
Damaged VOB's are known to cause problems, but I have never heard of this one.
Is this the only DVD this has happened to? Have you done others without problems?
I completely agree this is pretty wierd.

Whoops, my bad, I meant "DVD2SVCD" (it's pretty much perfect, so why use anything else? ;-).
DVD2AVI opens the files and I can see the whole movie - it's only once ripped.
PowerDVD XP is PowerDVD 4.0. As I wrote, it only opens the first .vob and I can't scroll "through" the movie.
I will try WinDVD 3.0 later when I'll be back from work and give you a shout.
And yes, none of my other rips had this problem

I don't know if you know this, but in these software DVD players you need to select each file individually for it to play them all and they treat each VOB as a chapter.
I agree that it does work very well. I have only ever needed to use something else once in all my time using this great program.
Post your Avisynth file. It has an avs extension and is a simple text file. I can't see anything really out of the ordinary in the DVD2SVCD_Log file. Let's see if there is anything in the avs.
If that doesn't work I will probably ask you to post the d2s file as well.

Too bad I already deleted the .avs file :(
If I got some free time on my hands, I'll encode it again. I guess I'll have to finish encoding to get a proper avs-file, right?

@ everybody who was nearly as confused as I was:
I started the whole DVD2SVCD process again (everything but the ripping) in a new, clean directory and it seems to work, the .mp2 files are at regular size and the movie ancoding is as long as it should be.
So if you were  about this whole story, hat bad dreams etc., I am really sorry about this :stupid:
