Hi there,

I' am just testing the latest DVD2SVCD release and I am wondering how you can do the following:

- Mux Video and Audio with I-Author
- Do Authoring with VCDXBuild
- Disable Subtitles

Thanks for you help

To use I-Author muxer and VCDXbuilder you must use Subtitles (otherwise I don't see the reason to use the i-author muxer)

Hi,

this is related to the playback problem on the Pioneer 444 Standalone. Doing tests, we found out, that muxing with I-Author solves playback problems with low bitrates...

Have you tried to disable svcd scan offsets in bbMPEG instead?

Hi,

not yet. I will give it a shot. But to make it easy, I switched to I-Author Authoring again which also uses I-Author muxing.

Dear DVD2SVCD,

Reading your last feedback to thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23821, and the readme file related to I-Author- Enhancement: You can now use the I-Author subtitle muxer together with VCDXBuild and VCDImager. (Submux and WinSubMux is ofcourse still supported). Just select your favorite muxer in the subtitle tab., I also concluded thatit was now possible to use I-Author muxer (video + audio) together with VCDXBuild. This request is best explained in thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23375.

Several owners of Pioneer DV-444 (and probably other standalones) only had success to solve issues with low birate using I-Author muxer for video+audio. All other trials were not successfull. The many trials of several people are explained in thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21104 and thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23887. The only definitive solution was the use of I-Author muxing.

Proposal to play with bbMPEG parameters was suggested in thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8039, related to another problem faced with standalone players (audioof of sync). In a hope to have both issues solved, I tried your suggestion with :
. a 2'23" chapter, known tohave these videofreeze issues.
. use standard DVD2SVCD parameters, CCE 2.50.
. burning with nero using DDogg's foolproof way (@ 4x, on 10x TDK-CDRW, with Plextor 2410A).
. Standard bbMPEG settings for Movie offset seconds (2) and Startup deays (180, 180, 180).
. In order to force low bitrate and use VBR, I used bitrates : min 300, max avg 600, max 2400. I of course never use these settings in reality, but it was for the purpose of the exercise.

As suggested, I played with bbMPEG advanced settings and made encoding for the 6 following combinations :
Add SVCD scan offsets Align sequence headers
. svcd ticker ON ON ON
. svcd ticker ON OFF OFF
. svcd ticker ON OFF ON
. ~DVD ticker ON ON ON
. ~DVD ticker ON OFF OFF
. ~DVD ticker ON OFF ON
I the 6 cases, the resulted burned video has the classical problems :
. image freeze of 1 sec from time to time.
. audio glitches.
. green squares.
Results were better or worse with some seetings, but always showed the problem.

I the made a second trial using the temporary files left in the Movie folder with standard DVD2SVCD parameters for bbMPEG and use of VCDXbuild :
. I manually run the I-author MPEGII Multiplexer only (not the complete program) which is fairly easy to use :
- input video : Encoded_Video_CCE_PAL.mpv
- input audio : Encoded_audio_1.mp2
- "ps format" checked (important to get MPEG2 compatible output)
. Rename the output file ENCODED_VIDEO_CCE_PAL.ps into bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg.
. Edit dvd2svcd_log.txt, copy the last command in the file, paste in the DOS run window and execute.
.Burn the image.
The resulting burned video was perfect (for a 600 avg bitrate), without any of the abovementioned issues.

I made a last trial, using the standard DVD2SVCD settings, but with selection of I-Author instead of VCDXbuild. In this case, there is first a mux-cut-demux by bbMPEG, followed by muxing (audio+video) by I-Author, image creation by CDmage. The resulting burned video was again OK, without the abovementioned issues.

I hope you understand why Pioneer DV-444 owners are so pushy. Best regards, avdmb

Hi,

did you do the I-Author test with the latest release (1.0.9) or did you use the 1.0.8 ? On my 1.0.9, when selecting I-Author, the software is using VCDImage ...

Thanks

christian_stuppy, I answered your last question in your other thread. Yes, in my tests with DVD2SVCD 1.0.9, I-Author was used and not VCDImage.
