please help quick question

you know a dvd movie is widescreen right, so there movie shows up in the middle of the screen, and when i rip a dvd movie its the same thing, so how come when i download a dvd ripped movie the pic is taking almost up the whole screen? can i do this with dvd2svcd. can you tell me how please thanks in advance.

I think what you mean is a anamorphic picture, also called 16:9

To get a higher resolution on 16:9 enhanced TVs the widescreen format is stretched in height and recorded on DVD. If you have a TV that is 16:9 enhanced you can turn this on and the TV will reduce the picture to the normal widescreen format, but with the resolution of the whole DVD picture. That means, on the DVD the black bars are used to store information, too. The TV will reduce the picture in height by adding the black bars to the movie.

You can rip a movie in it's original anamorphic format. Then it takes the whole screen, but everything is stretched.
