I tried all the 'patented' posts relative to makeing JACKET_P pictures and none worked on my CX875P. Some caused the screen to flicker wildly while others caused the pictures to swap places.
After many, trials and checking out commercial JACKET_P pictures I finally got everyone I make to work, everytime without Scenarist or other high priced software.
See this routine at:

http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=235177

It shows the small image in the changer index and also shows the large image when the movie is stopped.
I would like to know if it works for other changers too.

cyberbob25 posted in 10th September 2004 here:

read cyberbob25's phrases:
"i know subferno answered this already, but just for more clarification:

It's called a Jacket Picture, residing in a seperate folder in the root of the disc, called JACKET_P

This folder must contain 3 stills encoded as mp2 files.

You can read about it here: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/148301.php "

test this too! ;)

Thanks jorel
But I apparently didn't make myself clear. I know what the criteria is for the 3 pictures in the JACKET_P folder. I TRIED every system I could find on Doom9, Videohelper and everywhere else on the net save buying some highpriced software that I neither want or need. NOTHING, not a single one of the posted systems worked on my CX875P changer until I analyzed the MP2 files using every editor and analysis program that I have and could find free of charge and finally worked out the system outlined in the prior post.
I'm sure all the other posts were made in good faith and belief that they worked across the board, but I found this not to be true. The system I developed works fine for over 100 DVD's I've made, and thanks to FallenAngel and the Titlewriter he came up with makes my whole system look professional.

Jorel,
Thanks for the kind Welcome. I’m a retired Electrical Engineer with over 50 years of programming experience. I play with videos, build computers and write database programs for the Real Estate agents in Bullhead City, Kingman and Lake Havasu City, Arizona, USA…..
XP isn’t all that bad, with a little play you can make it look just like Win98 (well…almost!). It is a LOT more stable. You don’t see the “blue screen of death” anymore, but it is necessary to re-boot once in a while. ONLY do XP-Pro, NO Home version.
You can use the “regular” TMPGEnc version and possibly other programs that will transfer BMP files to MPG2. Nero can’t do the Small Pix at 96 x 64 pixels, it’s limited to 128 smallest width. ULEAD’s editing products don’t have the ability to set any size but the largest. I have Adobe Premier 1.5 but never tried it. Trying to keep costs down.
Open your TMPGEnc – Don’t use the Wizard, pick the BMP file which should be the size of the largest screen, which is 720 x 480 for NTSC, or the corresponding large size for PAL.
Select System (Video Only), then set your Output File Name to reflect the large Size Jacket Picture. Click Setting.
---------------------
On the Video Tab
Size – 720 x 480
Rate Control Mode Manual VBR(MVBR)
Click the Setting button and set Maximum and Minimum rates to 8000
Video format NTSC or PAL as needed
Encode Mode Non Interlaced
DC Component Precision – 10 bits
Motion Search – Normal
---------------------------
On the Advanced Tab
Video Source – Non Interlaced
Field Order – Doesn’t seem to matter Top or bottom
Source Aspect Ratio – 4:3 NTSC or PAL
Video Arrange – Full Screen (Keep aspect ratio)
---------------------------
GOP Structure Tab
Select I Picture Only button.
Check – Output Bitstream for Edit(Closed GOP)
No other boxes checked.
-----------------------
Quantitize Matrix Tab
Select MPEG Standard
No boxes checked (middle will be greyed out)
-----------------------
Click OK then at the starting screen, click to Start button to encode your picture.
You only need to return to the Video Tab setting to change the Picture size for each of the three pictures. Don’t forget to change the Output filename for each different size so you don’t overwrite what you’ve done.
Then it‘s only necessary to change the filenames of the three pictures to agree with the “standard”….J00___5L.MP2, J00___5M.MP2 and J00___5S.MP2.
MOST IMPORTANT....
Follow the steps outlined in the Guide using HexEdit to remove the excess bytes in front of the Video and to square off the end of the Video to the nearest paragraph boundery. Do this for EACH of your jacket picture files.
You are now ready to burn.

Good luck,
Let me know if this isn’t clear. I could send you an MS Word file with graphics if you like.
