View Full Version : Problems ripping certain DVDs with Smart Ripper

Ok, I use Smartripper to rip most of the DVDs I want to process, but I have problems with some of them. I have installed ForceASPI 1.7 (Adaptec's 4.70 didn't work well, I'm using Windows XP Pro).

The problem usually arises if after launching Smartripper it says something like "trying to access ASPI layer", "unable to unlock drive", "switching to WinIO". This only happens with some DVDs (about a third), the rest work with Smartripper/ASPI just fine and rip without problems..

If a DVD can't be read in ASPI, and Smartripper switches to WinIO, there's a good chance that it will rip some VOBs but will get stuck in the third or fourth VOB (I think this never happens in ASPI mode). When this happens I switch to DVD-Decrypter and it always works.

The only reason I don't use DVD-Decrypter with every DVD is just that I like that .ifo parsing that Smartripper provides (I wasted a full night once encoding Shrek after ripping it with DVD-Decrypter to find out later that it had 4-5 different starting credits in different languages (multiangle) :D ).

My question is, does anyone has the same problem/knows how to fix it? Or maybe, is DVD-Decrypter ever going to do .ifo parsing so I can dump Smart ripper for good? :D I know it has a multiangle processing checkbox, but that isn't nearly as good as true .ifo parsing.

IFO parsing has been added to DVD Decrypter and seems to work just great! :D
Im currently adding stream processing to its ifo parsing mode, I had originally said I'd do this in a later version but then decided there was no point releasing it without this because people would only moan that its not there!!! some people are never satisfied! ;)

As for the multiangle processing, the one in version 3.0.0.17 is actually very good, and im sure would have coped with Shrek just fine.

I hope to release the new version this weekend sometime. Check my site if you want to know how its progressing. The forum is just getting itself going.
