problem converting ac3 avi file

i've been using dvd2svcd for some time - backing up dvd's and converting avi files with nothing but success (dvd2svcd = great util). any little probs and i've managed to find the answers on this forum.

i can't find an answer to this one - it goes like this.....

i've dl'ed a movie, encoded using divx5 video and 5.1 ac3 sound, and want to convert it to svcd. i use all my usual settings in d2s and hit go.
the ac3 audio is extracted to disk - fine.
besweet then fires up and tries to convert the ac3 audio to mp2 - this takes 10 seconds and no mp2 file is created!
d2s then carries on to convert the video using cce - this completes after about an hour - no problems.
now bbmpeg runs to remux the converted audio and video into an mpg2 file - this fails coz there's no mp2 file from earlier.
i have to terminate bbmpeg and d2s.

checked the settings in d2s and decided to start again - exactly the same results!

decided i convert the ac3 file myself and re-run d2s using the recover option.
converted the ac3 file to mp2 using the beesweet gui, azid and toolame - worked - created myself an mp2 file called 'Encoded_audio_1.mp2'

launched d2s and started the recover - all started to work. bbmpeg created the mpg files and vcdxbuild created cue and bin files. when i previewed them using daemon tools the audio is out of sync - not a lot, but it's noticeable. i assume this is because i've fiddle the conversion?

anyone come across this before and know how to get d2s to do the complete conversion?
or know how to offset the audio when i use the recover option in d2s?

This is all new to me but I think the problem with the AC3 sound could be corrected by unselecting autodetect azid gain (2pass). When NOT using AVI2SVCD but just using besweet I sometimes wasn't able to use the auto find maximum gain and I would just put in a value 15 to 20 db instead. If I saw any overflows I would just reduce the value.

I'm sure someone else knows better than me, I'm just guessing and at all this stuff which is very knew to me.

way back when before auto detect gain I think the default was 6 and I'd put sometimes 8 hoping there wouldn't be an overflow. If there was an overflow then it'd start the audio conversion over again so it was mostly a matter of time trying to find the sweet spot.

I tried a small sample with AC3 and using AVI2SVCD and had the same problem as lazy_dave. I wasn't even able to use Besweet outside of AVI2SVCD. I had to convert to wav and than mp2.

My comment about the azid autodetect was wrong, I was confused with another problem I was having with auto find maximum gain not working but not with AVI2SVCD.

Manually convert it to a more standard audio format.
AVI2SVCD may not work for all kinds of avi's. There are just to many codecs etc. for it to always work.

the meaning of error 59 is that SYNCWORD wasn't found on the first 1000 bytes of the inputfile.
for AC3 files - this should mean the file is broken, or not even an AC3 file, but when it comes to ac3 that was extracted from avi, i guess it's reasonable.
i might set the error threshold to 2000 bytes. this should be more than enough.

download the latest BeSplit (v0.4), and fix your stream using the following command :
BeSplit -core( -input D:\Temp\Extracted_audio_1.ac3 -prefix D:\Temp\Extracted_audio -logfile BeSplit.txt -type ac3 -fix )

it will create D:\Temp\Extracted_audio01.ac3.
try to input this to BeSweet.

and i would also thank you if you could post your logfile.

should i rename the besplit file and try the recover in d2s now?

is this also the playbacking length of your AVI file ?

yes, kinda... virtualdub shows the length of the avi file as 2:17:38.840

anyways, i renamed the file and re-ran d2s from convert audio in the recorver option - everything worked as it should do, and ended up with 3 sets of cue and bin files. checked them using daemon tools and win dvd - near perfect results - a little sync problem, but not realy noticeable (that may be down to the slightly different times for audio and video above!?).

10/10 for some excelent advice - i'm more than happy with the results now.

BeSplit doesn't transcode, that would be.. BeSweet.
BeSplit is a powerful streams manipulator, and used here in order to fix the stream.

ok - thanx for the audio advice - now i have a problem with the video.

i only checked the start of each disk to see if all was ok!
about half way through disk 2 the video stops - the audio is ok, but at the top of the screen i get the following error message.....
