The Setup:
I have an Mpeg2 file I am trying to burn with Ulead DVD workshop to DVD. For size reasons, I have to transcode it down to 4Mbps from its current 6 Mbps. I have tried to use both Flask./bbMpeg and CCE to do it, but the resulting DVD plays all jerky and improper. Later I figured out if I specify a 4Mbps disk and drop the 6Mbps file into Ulead, then Ulead Itself will transcode it down, and the damn file will work fine. But, being the curious sort, I am wondering why will Ulead's transcoded files work and Flask/bb’s or CCE’s not? So I started to use various programs to look at transcoded files from all 3 programs, looking for the difference in the way they have been encoded. I have tried File Properties in all the programs, and I also downloaded bitrateviewer as well. Looking at all these, the file parameters appear to be Identical, but only the Ulead files will work. I am stumped so I figure maybe it is a statistic that none of these tools is reporting to me.
So my question is:
What is the most exhaustive information tool for reporting info about an MPEG2 file. There has got to be something out there that will tell me in what way all these files are different.
