View Full Version : Ogm playback oddity

All of my other rips work fine, but I ripped an anime episode and muxed it all that jazz into an ogm. It's got Divx5 video with GMC and B-frames, 2 ogg soundtracks, and a subtitle stream.

When I try to play it I just get video garbage and a partial picture. WMP says its playing but it doesnt progress. If I switch audio tracks from the Language menu, it starts playing. Then if I switch back to the original soundtrack, it continues working.

It's wierd. My other ogms still playback fine (though none of my other ogms use multiple soundtracks or subtitles).

I doubt this is relevant but the soundtracks are out of sync (I don't know why, and I know all about setting delay and such.) I think it might be because I tried Decomb's auto IVTC and it detected the wrong pattern.

Update:

I uninstalled the Ogg Subtitle filters and the file now plays normally (still out of sync and without subtitles). But I need the subs if I want to watch the original japanese language track. DVobSub apparantly doesnt support .srt subs, as I reinstalled that and no luck.

So many different things could have an effect here. One thing in the past that would mess things up was if the audio streams used a different bitrate or audio format. I think though that Tobias has addressed some of this. But it might not hurt to check.

Yeah, it could be a lot of things... I didn't really post this to get tech support or anything... I was just wondering if this was a known problem that I didn't know about or if anyone else had seen this before.

Ok sorry for keeping this alive when I'm the only one with the problem, but this may help anyone with a future problem.

For normal playback of a file like this, go to the Ogg Splitter properties and make sure "Always enable all streams" is unchecked. I don't know what the functionality of this is but unchecking it allows normal playback and all of your streams are still accessible from the Language menu, subs and all.

Pressing the "Enable all streams" button doesn't affect playback, in case you have this problem but still need all streams enabled.

Sorry I didn't test these solutions before posting, as I didn't discover some of these problems until I was tinkering on another project.

Hi Foambullet,

so which problems remain to be solved? After reading your posts I'm not sure anymore? Please sum up your remaining problems in an item list. Also, I'd like to know what audio format you chose for the soundtracks, and with which tools you generated them. We'll get it sorted out :)

Just by the way: One of my test results is that GMC is a horrible CPU hog for next to no perceivable effect. If you have playback troubles because the CPU can't catch up, try an encode without GMC.

All of my problems were solved, I only left those long drawn out posts in case someone else found these problems.

In case you still want to know, the audio was Vorbis, I encoded with Besweet and muxed with OggMux.
