I-author: "video_file1.mps is not a track format"

Hi there,

I have left the DVD2SVCD apart for a while, and I am doing some new experiments now that I have installed a P4 CPU.

I used the Shrek DVD in DVD2SVCD as a test, and tried to use I-author to author my SVCD.

For some reason, the creation of the first alf of the movie (first SVCD) fails, while the second is done correctly.

I noticed first in the DVD2SVCD log the following lines:

Then apparently the problem was fixed :

The I-author started to create the image for SVCD1, I got the line like in this message's subject in the crash log. Then it went on creating the second SVCD and all went fine.

Any idea ? I remuxed again but the MPS file gave the same error when it came to SVCD image creation. I am lost.

I once got this error message using I-Author. DVD2SVCD stopped at the muxing stage, and repeated about 10x the operation with the same error message. I cancelled the session.

I then ran the I-Author muxer in standalone (the red/yellow icon program). I manually fed the video and audio files, and started muxing. I got a warning message claiming that bitrate was too high. Seems indeed that I-Author muxer only accepts bitrates according to SVCD standard (max 2748).

My initial bitrate settings were : audio 224 (1 track), video max 2520 (the standard DVD2SVCD). I read in another thread that CCE is not respecting accurately these limits, and can produce higher bitrates. Advise was to keep 100 margin.

I redid the test with video max at 2400 (max average 2100) and DVD2SVCD went flawlessly until .cue/.bin file generation.

I played around a bit with the bitrate settings and now all the process goes straight to the creation of 2 .cif images.

I can burn them successfully with ECDC5.1, but they "cannot be read by windows" (whatever that means), and when inserted in my standalone player, they are recognized as audio disks...

Well I guess I will have to change authoring solution, I-author just doesn't do the trick for me... what should I use instead, in order to get subtitles ?

I-author has its limitations, true ... but within these limits it works quite reliably.
Yes, the first time over errors do happen if the total bitrate is too high (subtitles take up bitrate as well). dvd2svcd then deletes the first subtitles and reruns the multiplexer until the problem disappears.
EZCD5.x cannot burn I-Author cif images (Ezcd4.x is required), as the cif format was modified for EZCD5.x. As you can read in Q50 of the FAQ, use the latest beta of cdmage to convert your cif images to bin/cue. dvd2svcd even has a built-in option to do that conversion for you, btw.
