Suggestion (those working with low disk space will like)

i just encoded Boogie Nights DVD to SVCD.. using latest version of DVD2SVCD(or what ithink is the latest version.. probably one update behind).. this is the system i am working with..
amd athlon 800mhz
320mb ram
windows xp pro
10gig free (mite have been a little less) (my hd is only 14gig)

if u dont alreayd know.. boogie nights is a pretty big, long movie.. it came out to 3 cds.. ripping the dvd to my hd left me with about 4 gigs left.. so how did i manage? i use the basic settings in the doom9 tutorial.. 3 pass.. 128bit audio.. did not select don't delete files.. even with that option i still didnt have enough disk space.. i ran out of disk space when it was time for BBMPEG to be used.. doing the multi-plexing and stuff.. it just stopped and said i ran out of disk space.. which was correct. i only had like 200kb left.. LOL.. so i figure what to do.. i tried to delete the folder where i ripped the dvd.. at first it didnt let me.. because a file was in use.. so I JUST DELETED THE VOB FILES.. this freed up 5-6 gigs.. and thanks to dvd2svcd's crash recovery.. i started where i left off at BBMPEG.. and finished my rip..

there should be another option where it deletes the vob files for people short on disk space.. after it truely is finished using them.. because after CCE.. i think it doesnt use them anymore..

just a suggestion.. if not u can always just delete the vob files manually.. and use crash recovery after.. :)

yep it's been suggested.
While I agree it could help some people it is also a dangerous option to have. If you delete the VOB files before you check the result you may be stuck with a bad SVCD encode if something went wrong.

So while it's a good suggestion. It's also one to be very careful with.

it's a pointless option. I've done what you did in the past cuz my fourth dvd in a batch encode ran out of hd space.

If you have dvd2svcd delete the vobs then you can only Recover from the SVCD Cutting and Muxing stage and not from any previous point like Video Encoding. All things considered I hope that this never becomes an option. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I've suggested this previously, and would love to see it as an option.
Everything is automated anyway, so why not this.
Put it under an "Advanced" tab to hide it if necessary.

You could always create a batch file and have DVD2SVCD run it under finalize. Granted it's the last thing done and it won't help much in space during the encode, but you can create a list of files to be deleted and then run it, leaving only the bin/cue files.

if this option were to ever be implemented...lemme guess what the tooltip (or whatever you calls things) would be..something like:

"If selected you will need to re-rip your dvd again. Recover will only work from the SVCD Cutting and Muxing stage. No complaining will be allowed"

So many seem to forget thanks to DSPGuru's BeSweet he saves 1 to 3GB by doing ac3 to mp3 on the fly. In the old days it would turn into a 1.5GB wav and if you downsample 48Khz to 44Khz it would be another 1.5GB.

Honestly 80GB and 120GB drives are relatively inexpensive nowadays. I admit I missed out on the 120GB for $125 but just ordered a Maxtor 80GB 7200rpm for $110 free shipping and no tax. Shop around.
