Ogg Subtitler and VobSub Conflict

I was previously having trouble with getting Ogg subtitles and multiple audio tracks to work. Then I found this release group's web page and it said that you shouldnt have vobsub and ogg subtitler installed at the same time as they will fight each other for priority. Well sure enough, uninstalling vobsub made everything work fine. I hadn't heard of this before so I thought there might be people out there who would want to know about it.

I also belive that Vobsub can playback OGM Muxed Subtitiles So you also could uninstall the Subtitle pack and use just VobSub except i don't belive that VobSub supports the html extension that tobais has added to srt.

In a nutshell: Both subtitlers do their job with little quirks, but you should choose and install _one_ of them. This results in the fewest problems. Here's a quick evaluation

Ogg Subtitler: (For beginners)

+ Reliable, simple solution
+ From the same author which develops the Ogg-Filters, so compatibility shoube be no issue
+ Very simple usage via "languages" context menu in the wmp
o Mediocre subtitle rendering quality
- Some bugs which can be worked around (e.g. jerky fullscreen playback on windows 2000)
-- Some bugs which can't be worked around (doesn't work on most 98-based systems)


VobSub 2.13 and up: (For experts)

++ Great subtitle rendering quality
+ Works on every system
o Non-intuitive usage via green arrow in the system tray
- Sometimes unreliable in playback of ogm-muxed subtitles

You can try DivXG400 http://www.tac.ee/~prr/divxg400/divxg400.html ! It can display all kinds of subs including vobsub and subrip (except the ones embedded into .ogg) and works fine...in adddition to that it has some other nice features you might need...check it out.
