I ripped a copy of one of my dvd's to vcd and played it on my stand alone dvd player and the sound is fine but the picture isn't. the video will play for a few seconds and then wash out for a second then play nice for a few seconds then flicker(see digital pixels on the screen) this goes on throughout the movie.. did I do something wrong or might it be my dvd player.

the movie runs perfectly on my computer that is why I though it might be my dvd player...

used smartripper, dvd2avi, vob2audio, and tmpgenc

Sounds like the cd is not perfectly readable by the player. Try other cdr's or try slower burning speeds - VCD has no error correction data on the CD (that's why you can fit more video on it than on a normal cd) but for that reason it's also a little touchy...
