How to make it faster ?

Any tips on how to make all the process faster ?
Have already deactivated the audio downsampling has said in the FAQ, but what about the rest ?

The largest time portion is encoding the video. Here are some ideas to speed it up.

- Use Bilinear Resize.
- Disable as many filters as possible (no Temporal Smoother, no deinterlace).
- Do single pass CBR encodes.
- To speed up miltipass, create an intermidiate avi file (you'll need oodles of hard drive space).
- Buy a faster PC.
- Buy several PCs and do more than one movie at a time.

That is a very common discussion, but not lately.
Pretty much the only thing winthin DVD2SVCD you have done without changing your video encoding style.
You could always drop the number of VBR passes, but below three the video quality starts to suffer. You could change to CBR, but your video will take more discs or you will need to drop the bitrate.
Do a search on 1 Pass VBR for the thoughts on that method. Some swear by it, but personally I don't like it.

Other then this you could pump up your hardware. More CPU, faster memory(DDR and Rambus are much faster then SDRAM), pump up you memory if you have less then 256mb.

You maybe able to get a 10th of a point out of CCE if you tweak your bios settings, but you risk system instability. If you want to try it this is not the right forum as at a computer hardware forum how to tweak your system.

It takes time to make good encodes and you will probably end up taking more time trying to speed up your system then you will in extra encode time.

For now I've 512 DDR RAM so I think the ram is enough the cpu and HDD aren't bad at all a T-bird 1.4 at 1500 sometimes 1600, and the hdd a Seagate Barracuda IV 80 GB 7200rpm, I've heard that the hdd isnt a problem since any drive even 5400 rpm drives can maintain a nice speed.
By the way right now I get about 1.1 to 1.2 RT, and I used to use 5 passes but now reduced it to 4 do you think that the quality is the same with 3 ? For me quality is realy important but I dont want to spend unecessary time, has I think it was to use 5 multipasses
or having the audio downsample on or the bicubic resize activated, I think that deactivating all this things doesnt ehanced the quality and improves the perfomance so that is what I was asking. By the way could I deactivate "Anti noise filter", what about Field order what is the impact in Perfomance and Quality, Should I have "Add Resample Audio" activated ?

Howso? I haven't encountered any clicks or hiss when I've disabled downsampling.

And yes, i already heard some encodes (not done by me) without downsample, and those cds could only be used successfully used for whisky glass supports. Sure as hell, not for svcd movies. Crap.

My computer is a .....lower volume... PIII 500, 128M, 40+10 GB HD's.

I normaly encode movie in two parts, which doesn't give me chapter cutted...

I usually make encodes overnight, 1 CD each night.

I'm the one who needs more speed :sly: , not you!!! :D

i rip on a p3 dual 1ghz and on my lappy, p3 1ghz... my 5 passes take MUCH more than overnight.. hehehe

Well what can I say is that if you read the FAQ its is said that the audio downsampling is only recomended for older dvd players. About the clicks and hisses till now i've tested my svcd's with out audio downsampling with at least 3 dvd players, mustek v560, denver 311 (I think), philips 957 and 0 problems with the audio, so I dont know if that is that dumb :) but thanks for your impression even toght in this case I'm not going to follow it.
By the way dvd2svcd you are my GOD :)

By the way if you allow me I've a site about overclocking in general that has a part dedicated to svcd if you know anybody who can't speak english maybe they can get some help there

Well I dont want to discuss grammar with you specialy with the respect to the others that dont speak Portuguese and because I dont feel very confortable at it, but what I can assure you is that in my dictionary from Porto Editora its spelled "Fórum", I also checked a very RECENT etymology dictonary and it is spelled fórum it comes from the latin word foru, wich is a place where the people met to discuss the problems about public governation, but I can tell you one thing :) you will probably find lots of errors that we will try to correct but that isn't our main worry, so even if it is spelled rong I dont consider it has a bad start profolio, at least for most people who only want a place informal to discuss about computing, a place where you dont have to be worried about spelling the words rong. But thanks for the correction.

If we were to take it so deeply, you just said "rong" and thats not in any dictionary. Also, its "informal place" and not "place informal". And "people meet", "met" is past tense. And "dictionary" and not "dictonary"... and... let's leave it this way for now.

About the "forum" word, as you know, there was a recent update that thus revoked around 15% of the portuguese accentuation. You might care to update. eg: "cafézinho" is now "cafezinho". I hate it also, but it does exist. And dont worry, updated versions are easy to find.


About the meaning of the word, noone had any doubts about it, but im glad you cared to lose some time explaining. Anyone with an IQ below the shoe size appreciates the explanation and is now very thankful, im sure.

As for the site itself, i actually checked it... clicked a random link... that referred to a proposal for users to post their boxes's pics, but i only found some 20 ppl saying "i spent all my money in my overclocked pc". Oh well.

And by the way dont loose your preciouse time correcting my messages I could use Word to do that, I just dont realy care, what I want is people to understand what I'm saying. About my forum I already understood that you didnt like it but for thoose who would like to give a look try it.

Geting back to the main discussion I would like to know how many people have had problems with deactivating audio downsampling, because I havent and I would like to know if I'm likely to have problems in future with this, when I change from player, I think that almost all recent players suport this is that true or is it like m3tapt says that it gives corrupted audio full of clicks and hisses and its the most dumb thing to do ? Well I must say that if this is truth why the hell Dvd2svcd posted in the FAQ and I quote

"Q14: Do I have to use downsampling and convert 48 to 44.1?
A: Not at all. However, downsampling you will have a SVCD compliant audio stream, which may be mandatory if you have a SVCD standalone player.
There is a terrific increase of encoding speed when you don't use downsampling. "

Atencion with my experience this gives absolutly no problems but I'm a newbie and I would like to know other experiences.
