Let us stop airing out this "holyier than thou" attitude.
Why is it legal for this and other "kosher" forums to supply programs and guides to decode rented or borrowed DVD's, and it is "illegal" to solicit programs supplied by their originators?
If cracking and keeping the cracked product is legal, no matter how obtained or achieved, then asking for a crack is also legal.Otherwise there is no justification for the existence of this or other similar forums.
Live and let live, and leave it to corporate lawyers to fight the battles of their fatcats bosses.

It's easy to stand on principal when you're not the one who has to hire the lawyer.

@jdobbs: nicely put

@alfa: if you don't agree with the forum rules I suggest you start looking for another board because we're not gonna change them. The whole moderation team stands firmly behind these rules. I doubt you've been around by then but I've seen several dvd boards being shut down for offering links and/or cracks for download.

Well I for one would rather do my own leg work where cracks are concerned....if I should ever need one that is
and keep this board from suddenly disappearing like so many others have in the past.

that would be hypocracy to say i never in my life used cracks/serialz etc.

however, in the last few months i do programming only, and it may suprise you, everying is legal.

this board is about technical issues, and development of technology and applications.

just try to browse the board, to see how many freeware applications were announced on this board, and were motivated by requests here, to see what a contribution this board has to audio/video community.

if you're looking for cracks, know that they exist, but can't find them on the web yourself, well, you still have a lot to learn.

this board has tremendous contribution without supplying cracks. i'd also like to keep it that way.

but, as other ppl said before, it's not you that gonna have to pay to lawyers therefor it's not your decision. you can try searching for cracks on this board, and see how few results u get. that means that most of the users here agree with the rules. you are welcome to open your own board, pay the money for hosting and bandwidth, and offer to trade cracks on it. i'm sure you'll have many users. THIS board is NOT about cracks though.

regards
avi.

If you believe in your principle and you are honest to defend it, the consideration of hiring a lawyer is irrelevant.

Sir,
You seem to be missing the point of my letter which you should re-read.In a truly democratic setup, and I hope your forum is such, then a difference of opinion should be accepted.I did not ask for forum rules to be changed and your hardly veiled " suggestion " that "I should start looking for another board" does not give you credit as a moderator.
It is my prerogative to choose whichever forum suits me.

avi. Avi,
If you read my letter carefully, you will notice I said ASKING for cracks is legit. SUPPLYING them is not.If anyone on this thread feels guilty or offended, then I suggest we drop the subject as to not hurt their sensibility.Regards, alfa1234

The board is not democratic, it's doom9ocratic. What Doom9 (and to some extend the mods) says is law here. Get used to it.

It is my prerogative to choose whichever forum suits me.
No it is not! Abide to the rules or get lost. Our time is too valuable for your kind.

in fact your statement pretty much insults everybody who worked on creating these rules and all who accept and follow them. So I'm going to close this now.

You got something fundamentally wrong here.. Moderators and admins do not get appointed by the people.. they get appointed by their peers. Moderators don't get to be moderators because they are liked by other people.. but because they've shown leadership qualities and knowledge. We allow different opinions as long as they do not violate the forum rules. In your case accusing me and the moderation team in general of hypocrisy goes against rule4. Furthermore, I'm the admin (=boss) here, not just a moderator.

I said ASKING for cracks is legit. True, however, as it says on the signup page: The owners of Doom9's MPEG Forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason..
