Hi there - my first posting ever :D
i got a question about this cyclic redundancy check error. I burn DVDs on a Sony VAIO with it's DVD burner, try to copy them onto the harddisk of another PC and get that error. When I copy them on the original PC - works fine... (copying to a HD also works on an old Compaq laptop with DVD drive)
I tried with a 3rd PC - no can do...
The DVD plays fine with a home DVD player...
Is there any way to get the system to ignore the CRC and still do kind of a raw copy??
Cheers,
Marcus

You shouldnt want to ignore them, you should want to find out whats causing it. Are you using cheap dvd-r? Its your burner / disc combination thats causing the problem. CRC errors should only appear on scratched dvds, not freshly burnt ones!

I'll try!

I'm at work on my nt 4.0 machine. Don't know if this will work on your system.

if you type

xcopy /?

at the command line, you should come up with a bunch of options.

The /C option (at least on my xcopy). It says it continues copying even if an error occurs. Don't know if it will work on CRC errors.

My guess would be that even if it did copy, the copied file might not be correct and you may have trouble playing it back anyway.

If I am reading this correctly, you are taking the DVD which was just burned by the sony dvd and placing it into another dvd drive on another machine to copy to the new machines hard drive? Could one of the DVD drives heads (lasers) be out of alignment to not allow the copy?

Just a thought.
