View Full Version : AC3 distorted when encoded not in 48k

Hello all,

I use SoftEncode to decode the AC3 (48K sample rate), then open temporary file in the SoundForge, resample them to 44100, make new SoftEncode project from resampled files and encode new AC3. Project plays fine in SoftEncode before encodeing, but resulting AC3 sound is distorted. And if I encode twice, it is distorted in exact same places (about 3 sec normal, 3 sec distorted). It is distorted only while playing (bsplayer, WMP, DivX player). I used all recommendations from FAQ (Wave out etc.). If I decode the 44100 file in SoftEncode it is fine again.

And one more thing ... Please do not ask me what am I doing it for ;)

I have a question about softencode. Can I decode an ac3 to 6 wavs to use in surcode?. I can only seem to decode then save it as a single multichannel wav, not get the six files I want.
I know you can use besweet but would prefer to use softencode.

Thanks

Look in the SoftEncode temporary folder right after it had opened your AC3 in "decode to PCM" mode. There will be 6 .tmp files which are raw PCM data with the AC3 sample rate and settings (16 or 24 bit) you set in Decode options.

Thanks for the reply.

DspGuru, NO offence was intended at all with my comment just a personal choice at the time.

However, taking your comments into account I tried Besweet for a while and are now going to use it for decoding, so much easier than softencode.

Best wishes
