Setting up many files to encode

I am backing up four seasons of Buffy and four Seasons of the X-files in DivX 5. I am using Gordain Knot, which gives very nice results, but means that i have to manually rip each episode with smartripper, create the d2v project with DVD2AVI, set up the resizeing and audio encoding with GKnot to create the avs, and then manually set up both passes in Vurtual Dub, and finally mux the video and audio in Nandub.

As there are a total of 174 episodes in these series, this gets a little repetitive to say the least! I was wondering if there was a way which would require less effort seeing as i am using exactly the same settings for each file?

Help would be much appreciated.

Well, assuming all crop and resize resolutions are the same for each episode, all you have to do is check these once and then just copy & paste them into new .avs files for each episode. The job feature of VDub won't be such a pain either, because all you'd have to do there is open the first .avs, set the settings for the first pass, save it in the job list and then just do "open" and "save" for each next file because they all have the same settings. Repeat for the second pass.

Alternatively, you could put each series into a single file, by just appending the sources right in the .avs file. You only have to make the settings for each series in VDub once, and afterwards you can split them up where ever you want.

seazon 4 of buffy? as far as i know only seazons 1-3 has been released on dvd; seazon 4 will be released in june

You're right, it hasn't come out yet. What i meant was that i will be copying it as soon as i've finished the others and my exams etc.

For the automation thing, is there any way to set DVD2AVI to do several files in a row all with the same settings?

Not exactly. But you CAN tell it to treat all vobs for the different episodes as one movie. Just load each one with the "add" button. Then encoded them as one (will save quite some hassle) and later split them up into chunks you can burn on CD's.

Also, if I were to use the method you said of doing all the first passes first then all the second passes, i would not be able to re-use the mvinfo.bin file, which would slow down teh encoding a lot on the second pass.

I think the easiest way would to append them all together like I said and cut them up later.
