Well i know the ones of you who want the dvds intact when you copy them wont care, but under NTSC standard and using ccesp 2.64 i have mad many a dvd by just using dvd2avi to make a vfapi prject, then loading the vfapi avi into cce, encoding it with the correct bitrate, then using maestro to take the ac3 and the resulting mpv (after i use pulldown.exe) to make a perfectly synched movie, Then i use chapterxtractor to add the chapteroints. It has never failed me on over 25 movies.

I do the same for movies over the DVD-5 limit and for movies that give me hell. As far as I'm concerned, it's really the movie I want anyway.

The process works well. A few other tips using this method... If you go to the properties of the project, you will find an edit button for the Jacket Picture. This allows you to display an image on the screen when the player is in a "stop/resume" state. I make mine of the cover of the DVD. Don't forget to make your file 720X480 or it won't come out looking right on the screen!

Also, if you put a checkmark on the "Embed project text data into DVD image", you will have DVD Text included that is the name of the project you've created. I've tried this and the DVD Text info is read and scrolled/displayed on my Sony NS700P DVD player! :)

nice nice... what do you do if the size has to be reduced down to like 60 or even 50 %... i tried a 3 pass encode but its not that great.. do you think like a 6 or a 9 pass encode would be that much better?

@Xenobyte99

I've yet to come across a disc that required that much compression. I only put one movie per disc. As for the number of passes, I've not required any more than the 2 listed in the Advanced CCE Guide here (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/cce-advanced.htm). (technically, it's only one pass) It's my understanding that you will only get a marginal increase in quality on multiple passes and even then, it's only for a high level of compression (ie. less than ~3000kbps allocated for the movie). Most of my settings end up being 2000 minimum, 4000-5000 average, and 9800 max. The quality is indistinguishable from the original IMO.

As mentioned, you will find all you need to know in this guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/cce-advanced.htm). It works great. Thanks Doom9 and Robshot! :)
