Why are koepi so goddamn arrogant ?

is it only me or is KOEPI's behavior just wanting to punch the guy in the face

he make this awesome oggmux utility (he deserves credits for that)
but that doesn make him the right to write such arrogant stuff.

Instead of helping people and giving them infomation or a way to get it, he is just telling how stupid people are beacuse they dont know this or that about oog or ogm. or the oogmux utilty.

no other developer i have seen act liek this.
dimbrom,ivan,nic and Fu2k are always nice even if they are piss-off by some guy who deosn't read the readme.txt. they are never this arrogant and negativ as Koepi.

ligtning up koepi. people are just seeking information to be sure not to make faults

A few thoughts of mine:

-if you have something negative to say about a moderator do it privately or mail Doom9
-if you critisize someone you should at least try to spell it right
-and you certainly cannot compare the users on HA and here etc.

Anyway, I will not move this thread, as I think that the damage is already done.

I've just spoken to him.. he sent me a long pm and I sent back a pretty long pm, even for my standards. I get the feeling that he's rather frustrated with the average user on this board and I think you cannot blame him too much for that. He has done a terrific job but has to deal with basic questions every day. It is not easy to understand a moderator until you're really one.. my moderator rules say that your first priority is helping other people. This is fundamentally different from most boards where moderators mostly, well, moderate. Here they help... But.. look a the number of users.. there hardly is a larger dvd ripping board out there than this one. And on no board will you find so many distinguished members than here. But distinguished people also expect something from a board.. quality feedback mostly and not being bothered by stuff they consider trivial. It may feel as being arrogant to you.. but to these people it means being asked the same question over and over again. Unless you are actually in that position you have no way telling how extremely frustrating that is. trust me on that one.. it make you want to take a sledgehammer and smash your screen into very tiny pieces. and my screen is worth more than $900.. so I do know what I'm talking about.. 17" TFT screens are still very expensive. I find it hard to look over threads that annoy you... extremely hard even.. it takes a lot of getting used to it.. and I think every moderator has the right to get used to that feeling.. as every user can ask one or two stupid questions when he joins up and we won't flame him to all eternity for asking.
You know.. we're all here to learn each and every day.. that goes from user one (me.. though I think I'm number two ;) to number nine thousand whatever. I have an immense amount of respect towards koepi.. he has made an incredibly contribution without asking for anything.. so I feel this thread is somewhat below the belt. As being stated by ookami.. you should've brought this up in a pm to me.. we have a very concerned moderation team here and we look into every issue that's been brought before us, no matter how tiny it may appear. But we're also only humans.. each and everybody makes mistakes, including myself. We're learning on a daily basis here.. please give us time to learn our lessons as we try to give you time to learn yours.

Few weeks away from the board usually cures such ailments. Because of his contributions, he's excused IMHO.

I agree with the above. Even I feel annoyed sometimes when I read the same questions/problems again and again. But I have an advantage over Koepi: since I'm not a mod I don't need to read everything and I can skip the threads with a topic that looks boring/annoying to me. Otherwise I would surely maybe have my problems not to flame all the time, too.

But I'm glad you actually posted about this "problem" here. I think now Koepi ( and everybody else that feels similar like me for example )will think twice about what he says and the situation will improve so that nobody will feel being offended or something.

Yes, here is a lot of repeating questions all time.
But must say that some people, including myself has very bad and slow connection and search can take very long time.

Other thing - you can reacting different in such cases - worst is some kind of nervous, rough reply. I prefer little sarcasm...

Koepi works everso hard for the forum, so Sven you should have known better than that really (how Ivan is always so willing to answer questions is beyond me...such a great guy but that is OT)

I used to moderate a quake board many years ago.. auch, that was a painful experience.. :D After a while, when things got a little hectic, some users started to complain about me "abusing" my moderator status. I was really only trying to do my best, but I suppose they were partially right - when you get fed up you lose sight of things now and then.

Because I must agree that Koepi could have shown a little more tact in a couple of situations. But then again, it's really no big deal considering how much good he usually contributes to this board. And if you also take into consideration the work he contributes to the community outside this board, you realize he's sure contributing a helluva lot more than the average member of the "encoding community", and as such, I think he on top has every right to get a little frustrated now and then when he's even trying to moderate.
We certainly wouldn't him leaving that's for sure.

And frankly, I quite enjoy it when users who've done no research whatsoever get harsh replies when they plunge in asking stupid questions.. such users are IMO a lot more arrogant than koepi ever can be.. looks like people have forgotten how to use search facilities, and the more the internet grows, the more I see users who have no clue whatsoever. Yes I know we were all newbies once, but back in the old days we were at least interested in exploring and learning on our own.. everyday Joe is not the type of newbie we once were.

I mean yesterday, my sister called me over because she said she had a problem with the internet.. so I visit her, and you know what? The problem was that she could not find her "adress bar" in internet explorer.. sure she's my sister, but as doom9 described, I had a strong urge to get a sledgehammer and.. :devil:

But then again harsh replies wouldn't work on a nice board like this for too long. We should all try to be as nice as possible because it would be total chaos if each and everyone was allowed for him or herself to decide who's a stupid idiot, and who's not..:)

This thread should really be allowed to die, but I just had to reply (even though I'm just a lurker), because this is really nothing more than an unwarranted personal attack on Koepi in my opinion. And even warranted personal attacks should not be discussed publically.

And Sven, how can you be so arrogant. For people like Kopei and all the other mods, it can be quite annoying when newbies come crying at every little problem instead of working at it on their own. When I started ripping last august, I was ignorant enough to think that it with the right software it would be a synch. Its not. If one wants to truly become a master in the art of video it takes a lot of determination and a lot of free time to read. In my opinion newbies shouldn't really begin posting until they have become mature enough to know what they're doing. It is very possible for a newbie to learn most everything he would need to know simply by watching the boards over a period of time. If newbies would only take some extra time to look around on the boards or on the web in general for solutions to the problem I'm sure many of the moderators would be much less on-edge. I admit, ocasionally newbies come up with a truly perplexing issue that hasn't been adressed, but most of the time they are simply looking for a painless solution (although you can't really blame them for that). I'm just saying its hard to respect someone who dosen't take the initiative when you yourself had to spend hours on end trying to answer your questions on your own. Experience is the best teacher, and thats why searching the web over and testing until your box is ready to melt will always make you more knowledgeable and respectable than one who looks to the boards for every small glitch in their schedule. Sorry for the rant, but as I said its hard to respect those who dont take the time to solve problems on their own, especially when you yourself spent several months getting familiar with it before even attempting to contribute to the forum.

This is a typical reaction that shows up when you feel treated like this:

- people _demand_ things to add to a proggi.
- people treat you like you owe them something.
- people are to lazy to do a little work themselfes, e.g. using the search function. It's easier to let other people do that odd stuff (in psychology thise phenomenon gets called "vampyrism")

...just to name few of them.

I'm noone's slave.

http://www.google.com/ is a very good starting place if you need certain information, as well as the forum's search. Always when I wrote a little harsh replies on such matters, my _first_ simple forum search (or the search on google)delivered exactly what the person was asking about. This is a forum rules violation, and a waste of my time.

I can't see any arrogance in the abovementioned. You want to be treated with respect? Then give me that respect as well - and don't simply demand to do _your_ little part of work as well (ok, you could ask me if you'd pay me sufficently for that).

This is the second incidence with "Koepi-bashing" and it's definatly my fault. But that's the way I am. I explained myself some more often.

If you can't cope with it, I have to do The Right Thing[tm].

That is exacly the issue (and the evil) here.. the best way to learn is to make mistakes. That is also why so many people never become more advanced than "newbie" when it comes to computers and other gadgets, they are afraid of pressing the wrong buttons.... that will lead you nowhere.

I'm pretty sure most advanced encoders/computer users only becamse so by making lots of mistakes.. I'm no advanced encoder perhaps, but I sure know my way around a computer.. and that's thanks to me screwing up countless times.

Don´t scare me, please! I didn´t want to post in this thread because I think that I don´t have the right to do so. I´m not a greate contributer to this forum but one of those mostly silent daily readers. This is the forum where I get my informations about what I´m interested in because here are the most skilled people in one place! The level of this forum increased a lot since I came here and this is the merit of people like Koepi! I don´t have a solution for the problem this thread (indirectly) describes but I don´t want Koepi to leave this place under such stupid circumstances!!

Reading my text a second time I realized that I didn´t want to sound this way! :(
I just think that your words I quoted could have a bad impact on all the people who are engaged in so many greate projects in this forum. I mean that you are not alone in this situation (being bugged all the time (as now ;) ) and that this story (thread?) should come to an end now! That´s all!
