The only thing I really dislike about polls is that everytime someone votes, it resets the new message indicator for the forum, so I waste time coming back to the forum just to find out that someone else voted.

(Just a pet peeve)

hmm, i am missing "i check, whether it is a poll that makes sence or not and then decide, if i vote or be annoyed", so i didnīt vote.

sometimes a poll is the easyest way to figure out things, like if people like polls or not. ;)

i would sign a petition against stupid polls right away. i donīt know, what the forum rules say about polls, but maybe they should at least be related to the forumīs contend. maybe they should be approved first, like attachments?

I see the polls and think for myself:

these people have no real life.
They must be so unimportant that they try to make some people look at them this way.

Poor society.

I just ignore these people in future and I'm certainly faster to give them strikes as everyone else.

Childish, useless stuff.

I just saw _one_ useful poll until now. And it's not in this "general" forum...

well... in defense of the people making posts I have to say that most are really only curious. Though, the people who really need to know can just ask me.. I have stats from sitemeter (global site counter), stats on each and every server (including forum), that reveal pretty much all you ever wanted to know about geographical, and computer issues without creating a controversy (the last where are you from post got critisized because it didn't list all European countries, the one we're having today is more US-centered). Though stuff like what's your favorite player can be useful every now and then.. but I think once a year would be more than enough. I'm actually considering making polls a moderator only thing.. right now we're having too many polls ongoing imho.

>I hate any voting.

:D

Great vote ;) .

I agree with Doom9, this is way too much. Maybe we should/could make an Poll Forum? It would be stupid that only Mods can make polls...

If I remember correctly we've considered a poll form even on ezboard.. I don't think it's too stupid to only let moderators start a poll.. they do remember about previous polls most of the time and may be able to point a curious member towards the right poll we had in the past.

Could you add monthy stats or something like that to your site? Maybe this would help satisfying the curiousity of the people and they concentrate more on discussing things here than finding out things like that. I would be interested in some statistics about this forum, too. :D But I don't consider this as being important for this forum so I never asked and I could live with it if you say "That's not possible/would take too much time/..."

I like voting :) I like seeing what other people think and putting in my own vote.

I found it very interesting to see that there are so many people from Europe on this forum, and I found it interesting to see that quite some of you are not 20-30 years old, but 30-whatever years old.

Do you really think it is soooo sad and soooo stupid if I find that interesting? I mean, I don't waste more than 15 minutes of my life on it, so why bother?

Sad is when someone makes poll, and start to divide continent, World...

Just to remind, many wars started because of drawing some borders.

Older people likes to watch movies too, and I think that they are more addicted to make collections.

here are some stats: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24133 but that's about as much as I can do for you..

Just to remind, many wars started because of drawing some borders. OK, but it is a fact that we have different countries in this world and being interested in what people like doing in these countries doesn't seem to be a reason for war.
In fact, INTEREST in other people and other cultures has always been the antagonist of war. What promotes war is the FEAR of other cultures, which I don't see anywhere on this forum, luckily :)

I just wanted to point how people is sensitive about geographical partitions, categorizations. It was visible by many reactions in polls here.
I think that many of wars was simple war for teritory. In my region certainly.
