Hi All,
Was wondering if there is a tool (preferably GUI based) that is able to encode vob files at different bitrates and resolutions? Similar to what Soft Encode does for AC3. I'm thinking of buying a Pioneer A03, but the limitation of the media size means that I won't be able to backup all my DVD movies. I'd prefer to backup to a single DVD-R so I can play my bcakup DVD's on my set top DVD player. I'm paranoid as I've had 2 movies scratched so bad that whole chapters aren't playable.

I'm assuming you haven't heard of ReMPEG right? I like it a lot, except that I can't get movies re-encoded with ReMPEG to work on my PS2, but... it works fine on my standalones and my xbox...
give it a try

Thanks diogo6! Looks pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. How low can you go before video quality starts to suffer?

well that would depend on the movie. but if you want really low bitrate and still dvd quality use CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder) it is far better and quicker than ReMPG and TMPGEnc.
for example i managed to get a 5 gig vob of the matrix down to 1.9 GB and it looked mint. Full dvd quality still. at that was with the ac3 sound still.
although somebody said before that the matrix was a highly compressable film.

Thanks s0nyguy,
Is there anywhere I can get my hands on a copy of CCE?

I'm gonna try CCE myself, but meanwhile, the answer to that question. I've used 60% quality (ReMPEG2) and it worked perfectly...
Sonyguy, is CCE easy to use?
