anyone understand the differece between pal/ntsc CCIR (704x480/576)

and pal/ntsc ITU.R 601 (720x480/576)

this relatively to movie resizing.

Makes interesting reading - allegedly even SMPTE and MPEG couldn't get it right!

BTW, when you see a width of 704, this is means that 8 pels have been cropped off the left and right end of every 720-width line.

i read already that page
but other questions to answer:
why crop out a part of the screen???

Because those 8 pixels on either side fall into the overscan area of most TVs.

oh yes, but....
if you do a tv format,like VCD or SVCD, the tv overscan will cut 16 pixels more....
