View Full Version : AC3 --> WAV Problems (From DivX Source)

I have a DivX movie that spans two disks and uses AC3 audio. I am trying to convert it to SVCD format for viewing on my set-top player and TV, but I am having a few problems.

I started out by loading the DivX file in VirtualDub and "Save WAV", renaming it to AC3 when it was done. I then opened the AC3 in HeadAC3he for conversion and downsampling to a 44.1kHz stereo WAV file. Everything worked great for the first disk. No problems at all.

When I tried the second disk I ran into some problems... I did the same thing with the second DivX file, "Save WAV" appeared to work fine. When I loaded the AC3 file into HeadAC3he, it gave me an error that the file might be corrupt and it refused to convert to WAV. Now, when I watch the second disk (original DivX) in WMP 6.4 (with audio filters installed), it plays just fine and the audio works as expected. Whoever did the rip cut the credits, and I am wondering if the chopped AC3 stream is what is causing the problem (although the first half of the chopped movie works fine for me).

Does anyone know of a way around this problem? Is there a way to "fix" the AC3 file, or at least fake some app into thinking it's fixed?

It's not becasue the end credits are choped but becasue the ac3 si not starting from the bigining since ti was cut.

Your best bet is probably to rejoin the 2 parts as 1 file, then extract that ac3 file, and covert it and split the resulting mp2, or split the ac3 with ac3spliter from the besweet creator

But i do belive that the ac3 will work with the svcd or is this a space issue ?

AC3 will work with the SVCD? I didn't know that. I'll try rejoining the two halves of the DivX and see if that AC3 file works. That would actually work better for me anyway as I would like to do three SVCDs for this movie instead of two.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Nope :(

Even after I joined the files and extracted the audio, I got this message when I opened it in HeadAC3he...Warning:
Source file's last frame incomplete
or corrupt streamNo such luck... Back to the drawing board.

From gizmau's post in DVD2SVCD forum:

ac3 is _not_ possible with (s)vcd. the only solution would be minidvd.

when multiplexing, ac3 is muxed as private stream, whereas the svcd expects a mepg audio stream. thereforce this ac3 isnt recognised by the player.

I'm not an audio expert but I believe that vcd and svcd are very picky formats when it comes to audio
