View Full Version : Playback-Problem, maybe wrong encoding

Hi,

I did a lot of DivX 4.12 encoding with GKnot, using Doom's Guide.
Now I did my first DivX5Pro encoding (not 5.0.1), again following Doom's Guide.

I tried to encode Sleepy Hollow.
DivX encoding with VDub, 2 pass-encoding using a bitrate of 1250. GMC and BFrames on, Quater Pixels off. Slowest encoding.

AC3 to MP3 with BeSweet 1.2, using VBR.

Muxing AVI and MP3 with NanDub.

When I'm watching the divx-movie, picture and sound are drifting. Sound is playing in correct speed, picture is too slow.

I did the same encoding using DivX 4.12 (without the DivX 5 Pro options of course). Playing that Divx-file cause no problems.

For playback I tried mplayer2 and ZoomPlayer 2.5, both same results.

I have a Pentium III 450 MHz with 320 MB RAM (don't laugh please) with Win98SE.
Is DivX 5 playback too heavy work for my system??

Thanks for any halp,
Barny

yes imho your system is to slow.
try it without gmc.

Ok, I will try.

How much will it effect picture quality when encoding without GMC?

you may decrease the post processing level to 0
I have a PIII@667 and I can't even get smooth playback with 384x288 and maximal post processing :o
Seems like I must get a 1,5 GHz CPU!

Postprocessing Level is allready set to 0.

i think 1250kbps will allow you to leave it off:D

(btw: i never use qpel or gmc, and im statisfied with quality, even with 2-pass-rips @ 800!)

btw2: sleepy hollow, der mann hat geschmack!

I did the encoding again. This time I only used BFrames. QPel and GMC where switched off.
Now the divx-movie stays in sync during playback, and it still looks very good.

Maybe I have missed something, but I did not know, that GMC causes such high system utilisation on playback.

Anyway thanks for help.
