View Full Version : WMP6.4 crashes with ogm containing subs

I'm having an odd problem that nobody else seems to have so I guess I'm doing something wrong but can't figure out what.
When I try to start an ogm stream with subtitles WMP6.4 (and Zoomplayer) crashes with a division fault in modul SubTitDS.ax. Zoomplayer has its own message saying Division by Zero. If the ogm has no subs everything works fine. I use Win98SE with Directx 8.1 and I have the latest Filters installed (OggDS 0.9.9.1 and SubTitDS 1.1.2.2) and also VobSub 2.13 and mmswitch, cause I use those often. The problem appears no matter if the movie is encoded with Divx 3.11 or 4.12.
Has anybody (had) the same problem?
Does anybody know a solution?
Thanks in advance, folks!

Can you verify your problem with win2k?
Win98 is known to have problems with OGM and/or subtitles.
May have something to do with other subtitle filters as well, you may want to uninstall any concurrent subtitle DSFs ...

Haven't tried that yet, I'll report if done, thanks.
I get subtitles to work when I use an ogm stream that contains only the movie plus one or more audio files and let Direct Vobsub show me the subtitles in the .srt files that I originally wanted to be muxed into the ogm. (Puh,long sentence...) But then WMP would only show me Audio1,Audio2,... but not English,German,...
I used OggMux 0.8.4 (Great work!) and also muxed with Graphedit and deleted some useless filters but the result stays the same...
Ok,have to find someone with win2k...

If you are using ogg subtds and dvobsub on the same machine, you might want to try uninstalling dvobsub and seeing if that works.
I think that's the only offender that I know of so far.

Unfortunately uninstalling Vobsub and mmswitch didn't help, it still crashes with the same error message. So, actually fortunately, that has nothing to do with it, cause I use and like both.
I think I have some Divx Antifreeze Filter that goes away next and finally the win2k option. I'm puzzled that nobody else seems to have seen that error ever before. Must be some weird combination I have. Thanks anyway

Try this quick and dirty way, rename ogm to avi. See if that helps. Oh yea, if you used graphedit make sure you change ogm to avi also.

I actually rename the files right after muxing to start WMP when I doubleclick cause it seems the .ogm extension isn't registered yet. And I'm just too lazy to do a Shift+RightClick :-)
So thanks for the suggestion but the message still appears, when I load the .ogm file in WMP. I think it's some conflict with an other DS filter. Is there a way to show a summary of all filters that are installed? Or do I have to 'prepare' the subtitle files somehow? I use files in .srt format that I create with subrip 0.97b.

I have the same problem (Win98SE). I tried to connect the Pins in Graphedit manually, but it crashes everytime i connect the Subtitle Pin.i also tried to connect an external Sub with Filesource->Subtitle Parser->Subtitle Mixer ,same crash again (with and without "Render all Streams").Connecting the Subtitle Pin first works, but after connecting the Video Pin it crashes again.Connecting the Subtitle Pins to DVobSub works and the Subtitles are shown. I reinstalled Win98 and installed just the Ogg Filters .. same again. Maybe a Bug in the OGG Subtitle Filter.
BTW, if i unselect "Render all Streams" the Subtitle Pin is called "65535" instead of "Subtitle x"

Hm, 65535 is 255x255 or 2^16-1... magic number in old 8bit-wonders
sNYDer, it's as so very often a specific w98(SE/ME)issue which causes coders of DSF double work, for the DirectX environment seems to be bug infected much more in W98 than in W2K based platforms. I reject intelligible suggestions to convert to XP or its precedor, since I finally managed to keep my system in shape and running stable as long as some alpha stage apps won't crash the entire machine. Still there'd be some incompatibility issues to face when becoming XP(erienced), right ?
I understand that the motivation for this extra work is not overwhelming, though there may be still a huge mass of w98 users. Last objection: legal low-cost way to upgrade to XP/W2K ?? I feel like M$ has put a "Malefiz" block in front.
So we have to keep coders goodwill up by any means i.e. thinking and searching forums before asking too stupid questions
or gain programming skills ourselves:rolleyes:...
Let's hope and be thankful.
Btw, I think Tobias - who is dedicated in this - might be much more involved with the mystified CoreEngine formerly known as PowerDivx at the moment or further successions of exams... ATM

I have done alot of extensive testing here, and I haven't found a single Win98-based installation _not_ crashing with the ogg subtitler yet. I hope that Tobias can find the bug one day, but it's not trivial at all.
So, if you're running 98, VobSub 2.13 or higher is your best (so far, only) bet. It works.

Thanks for the feedback.Good to know other ppl are having the same problem as it doesn't seem to be my very own stupidity then.
@Koelsch: I'll try to confirm what you did on my machine but I'm not quite sure if I understood everything you did...(this time definately my stupidity). Does Graphedit crash when you render or WMP when you play? Cause I used to have muxing problem when using Graphedit but they disappeared after installing the latest filters.
@Bluedan: I agree with you that upgrading to win2k/XP isn't the answer to everything, especially if your (and my) system are running just fine. Though it would be nice to have things running on as many different systems as possible (btw: is ogm playback under Linux possible?) I have the greatest respect for all the ppl that help get things working at all.
@Mentar: Yeah, I'll stay with vobsub until some other solution arises. Hopefully Tobias has time and luck to find the issue.
Unfortunately I won't get any results concerning my problem under win2k before monday but I'll post asap. Until then recovering from yesterday and regaining strength for the weekend :-)

well, it crashes in graphedit and in mediaplayer during rendering.in graphedit (a play graph, not muxing) i tried to build the graph manually to see in which situation the crash happens.muxing is still done by Koepis muxer.
PS: until latest filters i was also not able to mux

So I finally got report from a friend of mine that has win2k. It's running fine on his machine. So it definately seems to be Win98 what's causing trouble when using the Ogg subtitle filter. Sad news but at least now I know.
Thanks again for all you people trying to help!
