I would like to thanks jonny for the comptest and his encoding method on Gordian +divx5enc...
But (yes there is a "but" :) ) , I would like to ask some more question.

** The most important question for me, I Moved the resolution scroll bar to approximatively 55% on GKnot, is that right? Or can I go down since I encode with divx5

**I read many posts on the forum and on the guide on divx.com explaining QP,GMC and B-frames.
I have made an encoding (movie 2h, divx 5.01, bitrate 581Kbps, on 700Mo 544*304!!!) with all the Mpeg4 tools checked and it worked well ( a little bit longer than with divx4 : 5-6 hours 2 pass encoding on a 1600XP). I read that QP must not be check, but I don't understain the reason very well, so what are you advicing for encoding...

**Keyframe and RC, does they have to be changed and in which conditions on your encoder tools.Psychovisual enhancement is for crappy movies, is that right?

I hope I don't borrow everybody with my questions, and thanks a lot again.

I usually stay between 55%-65% but i think you can go lower until you are satisfied with the final result (i think the % value is really a subjective thing)
NOTE: if you change the resolution you must do another comp test

b-frames is a MUST
i haven't tested alot QP & GMC, olny because my pc is to slow to play the final avi (i usually encode & 704 x xxx :) ) so i can't tell you nothing about this

I use 250 for PAL & 300 for NTSC
if the comp test is >= 80% i lower the max quant to 4
I personally have no problems with light PE, PE should enhance the quality with a better allocation of the used bits.

From everything I've read and heard, (correct me if I'm wrong) using QP (quarter pixels) can cause jerky playback. So I've stayed away from it.

yes you are right...don´t use QP...it causes jerky playback

Thanks a lot for your replying jonny, I know all the things I wanted to know...
In adding I want to know what do you call "jerky playback", cos I'm quit surprising with the amazing results with my divx5 encoding. It has almost no artifacts nore "lag" (?) screen.

Was my first project, is a command line tool to help reaching the correct size in divx4.12, it lacks the interface and i have stopped it after divx5 was out.
