View Full Version : How to save segmented files as a single big one?

I have captured a film of video using the segment file option as I wasn't using NTFS. There are 7 segments and since I have upgraded to a 80MB disk and WinXP would like to apply resizing, filters and WAV audio and save the film as one single AVI.
I have tried using "Save AVI" but VDub only proccesses and saves the first segment. I think "Save segmented AVI" would proccess all segments but save segmented files too, right? What are the options I should use? I want a single file to feed AVI2SVCD and not get involved with AVIsynth etc
Cheers

If you have a collection of AVI's you'd like to concatenate, try Nandub. The File menu has an "Append AVI Segment" command. Set audio and video both to "direct stream copy."
That "Append AVI segment" command is available in VirtualDub, too (NanDub took over this command as it's based on VirtualDub).
If you have truly segmented AVIs, then you could simply make sure the extensions are .00.avi, .01.avi, .02.avi, etc. When you load the first one (.00.avi), VirtualDub automatically loads the other chunks. All you need to do then is "Save as AVI".

BTW: If you want to encode the captured film, you can also leave the segments as they are; VirtualDub will treat them as a single file.

THAT doesn't work here. Neither with Nandub 1.0rc2, VirtualDub 1.4c or VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2. Only the first segment is processed, no automatic regognition of following segments.

@Wuzzi
Hi!
What are the specifics of your situation?
1) How did you create the segments?
2) Are they all IDENTICAL in all aspects of video and audio formats?
3) What are the file names?

I've found that this doesn't automatically work. However, if you open the 00 file, then append the 01 file, you might find that all the rest of the files are then appended.

@CWR03
The mods are a bit slow today - I asked them that same question several hours ago...

In the Open video file dialogue box, does "Automatically load linked segments" mean? Something different?

It should work as bb says. BTW, GSpot's "container" window will tell you whether they are are "real" VDub style segments, which they must be for it to work, as opposed to just some split up AVI file. The window should display a phrase like "AVI v1.0, VDub Segment" with the word "final" appended if it's the last one.
That said, I bet your problem is one of the following.
1. You cannot use "right click, open with", or it won't work.
2. You cannot use drag and drop, or it won't work.
3. Which means you must use the regular File > Open menu item - and you must have "automatically load linked segments" in the lower left corner checked.
Unintuitively, #1 and #2 are true despite the fact that the box is checked by default when you use the dialog.
