only 5 seconds rips/encodes?

I've used DVD2SVCD to backup about 50 movies now and I have a new issue. I have searched on here as well as some other boards and have not seen this listed. I hope someone can help me out.

I am trying to backup Mission Impossible (1996, not MI:2). I use Power DVD to look at every chapter as always (seems to help me not have any ripping issues) and then DVD2SVCD sees the IFO file and tells me the correct movie length of 1 hour 50 minutes and some seconds. The problem is that when I start the process, it finishes in like 2 minutes and when I look at the text file, I see that it lists the movie as being only 5 seconds long. I have not put the Bin/cue on a CD to test it, but my GUESS is that it is recording the Widescreen / Normal selection menu that this movie displays as you start the movie. (When you hit Play on a DVD player, it comes up with a 2 option menu that asks if you want to watch in Widescreen or Normal mode.)
Does anyone have any ideas?

When you select the IFO what is the time shown in the window?
Did you try and play any of the mpg files or the VOB files in a software DVD player to see what was encoded or ripped?

Without any logs or more info to go on I would guess you ripped the wrong IFO file or ripping failed in some way.

Check the length in the window of the IFO you selected and make sure it's close to the movie length. This is it is post you DVD2SVCD_log.txt file.

SVCD does show the correct movie length in that field. I tried it 3 times and got the same results all 3 times. I did not watch the MPEGs (I know I should have) but the largest file size was only 17 Megs. I posted here, and then started backing up another movie while I waited for a responce. The one I am currently doing should be done when I get home from work today, so I will try MI again when I get home and then look at the MPEG and post that text file.

Do a rip only and watch it closely. Check the Vob files in A software DVD player. If it isn't the whole movie try Vstrip that is included as well. Really sounds like a ripping problem.

Ok, I tried ripping it again and got the same results. I watched the VTS_01_1.vob file in \dvd2svcd\movie as well as the bbmpeg_muxed_file00.mpg. They are both 5 seconds long and are a splash screen that says that the movie has been modified to fit the screen.
I looked at the DVD and tried to select a differnt IFO file (there is one other on there) but when I do that, the box that has the length of the movie stays blank.
I agree that this is a ripping problem, I just don't know what to do in order to fix it.
Attached is the DVD2SVCD_log.txt file as suggested.

Have you tried Vstrip yet?
If all else fails try SmartRipper. It may cause other problems, but if it's the only way then there is not much else to do.

The log files have to be cut and pasted not attached, but don't bother since we now know it is a ripping issue for sure.

Well, I tried Vstrip. It ripped and now CCE is encoding. It has been running for about 12 hours now, so it looks like that did the trick, but I will know for sure tonight.
What is the difference between using Vstrip and not using it? Are they just 2 different ripping programs?

Yep that's about the extent of it. Internal Routines are just a little ripping program DVD2SVCD wrote himself and Vstrip is considered about the best ripper ever created, from a technical standpoint not a user friendly one. DVD2SVCD has had enough forsight to figure that his program may not always be able to work on every DVD so he choose to include one Ripper that has always been outstanding.

Many people use other rippers, but it isn't really advised since no testing has been done with anything else and others have proven to give unreliable results when used with DVD2SVCD.

So the best way to rip a DVD is:
1. Internal Routines
2. Included Vstrip
If those fail.
3. SmartRipper 1.39 or before if you have or can get it.
4. SmartRipper Any vesion
5. DVDdecrypter (I hope I spelled it right)

I know the feeling. He is probably my all time Favorite Pat. He has a better arm than Brady, but Brady just gets rid of the ball so much faster and with the lack of protection that O-line gives, that is what we need.

I honestly think it was the best thing for him. He never would have been the same guy he was 5 years ago here. A fresh start will, especially in an area that supports him with no Quaterback controversy, make him a pro bowler again.
Of all the teams why Buffalo though? The same division and a team known to make bad player choices. All I can say is that they guy almost died to get the ball another yard. What more can you ask?
The Pats did what was best for the team and him in the end.
