Just finished doing a backup of Amelie which as you may know has french audio streams with english subtitles. Everything works fine but the subtitles don't all display, it looks almost like the start of each paragraph appears and displays in the correct position / colour but the rest don't appear at all.
I followed the guide carefully and even went back and followed it again with the same end result. Any help would be greatly appreciated as my french doesn't really go much further than bonjour :)

Ok I have figured out whats going on. The only subtitles that are displaying properly are those in the top line of a two line entry.
I can just see bits of the tops of the characters making up the second line and single line subs. However, I still can't figure out how to fix it!
Any help would be appreciated.

Did you change the resolution? Subtitles are images, not text, superimposed onto the video during playback. Being in a seperate stream, they retain their original dimensions. And, before you ask, there is no program I'm aware of that resizes them.

Thanks for the reply.
The video is PAL so I used 720x576 in SubRip as per Doom's guide.

Ok I figured out what was wrong :)
The script file s3sub.sst created by S3Conv seems to default to NTSC resolution even though I selected 'Original' as per the guide.
When opened in a text editor it reads:
st_format 2
SubTitle all_non_drop
Display_Start non_forced
Pixel_Area (2 479)
Display_Area (0 2 719 479)
Color (3 4 3 3)
etc...
Pixel_Area tells Scenarist the area of the subtitle to use and Display_Area tells Scenarist the area of the pixel area to display.
When applied to a PAL resolution subtitle image these values create a display 'window' that in most cases excludes the actual subtitle text.
I changed the value 479 to 571 for both Pixel_Area and Display_Area and my subtitles now work perfectly.
